VIDEO: Deerfield & HP Gymnasts Team Up to Win Big

Seniors Mike Spinello and Robbie Brown look to improve on last year's run to the state gymnastics meet.

Most and Highland Park athletes consider each other rivals. But Deerfield's Mike Spinello and Highland Park's Robbie Brown are rivals of a different sort.

"It's not because they're from different schools," Deerfield/Highland Park Head Gymnastics Coach Doug Foerch said. "But there is (a rivalry) just because of their competitive nature and they both just want to be the best."

Being the best on the Deerfield/Highland Park co-op boys gymnastics team has been a two man battle for the last two years. Brown finished 24th in the state in all-around last season, while Spinello finished 16th on floor and 12th on vault at the state meet. Both gymnasts shared team MVP honors.
