VIDEO: Four Warriors Set Sights on State Titles

Local athletes gear up for competition in Champaign and Palatine.

A big weekend is right around the corner for three wrestlers and one gymnast who all have a shot at earning state titles.

Juniors Artie Bess, Lenny Bloom and Keven Hoogheem will head to Champaign for the wrestling state finals, starting Friday.  Bess won the two weeks ago and the Barrington sectional title last week at 215 pounds.  At 135 pounds, Bloom was the lone Warrior to reach the 40-win mark this year, going 40-2.  He took 3rd place at the Barrington Sectional.  Hoogheem took 4th place at 103 pounds.

Sophomore gymnast Christine Stitcher will compete for a state title as well this weekend at Palatine High School.  She posted a career-best score of 36.550 at .  Although she did not automatically qualify in her sectional, Stitcher's score was good enough to earn one of 12 at-large bids to the finals.
