VIDEO: Giant Boys, Girls Sweep Rivalry with Warriors

Both the Highland Park boys and girls basketball teams came away with wins Friday night over rival Deerfield.

Boys Basketball

Final Score: 39 - Highland Park 57

Records: Deerfield (5-8, 2-2) - Highland Park (8-6, 3-1)

Top Performers: Highland Park was led by a trio of seniors.  Josh Sterns (17 pts), Jake Norcia (15 pts), and Ross Chuckerman (12 points) were all in double figures for the Giants.  As a team, Highland Park shot 50% from the field and held Deerfield to 40% shooting.  Senior Alex Sachs was the only Warrior in double figures, scoring a team high 11 points.  Senior Mack Watts chipped in six points and senior Connor Shields came off the bench to score seven points.

Up Next: Deerfield will host Wheeling on Saturday at 5:30 pm.  The Giants are off until next Wednesday when they travel to Elk Grove for a 7:30 pm tip off.

Girls Basketball

Final Score: Highland Park 41 - Deerfield 37

Records: Highland Park (8-9, 2-3) - Deerfield (4-15, 2-4)

Top Performers: The Giants were led by sophomore Lena Munzer, who dropped in 13 points.  With the game tied 18-18 at halftime, Senior Ariel Swartz helped HP pull away, scoring all 12 of her points in the second half and helping lead the Giants to a four point win.  Deerfield got 15 points from senior Amanda Kellow and 13 points from senior Liz Yucknut.

Up Next: Deerfield will take on Fremd at 7:00 pm on Monday night.  Highland Park will host Wheeling at 7:00 pm on Tuesday night.
