VIDEO: Tennis Team Brings High Hopes into 2011

Despite a loss to start the season, the Warriors tennis team has aspirations of finishing top three in state.

The boys tennis team knew it would be tough to start its duel meet schedule against Hinsdale Central, a perennial contender which finished second in the state in 2010.  Despite suffering a 6-2 loss to the Red Devils in the season opener, Deerfield has plenty to be optimistic about for the rest of the season.

"I think that this (match) gives us a gage," Deerfield Head Coach Josh Leighton said. "One of the things I talked to the guys about afterwards was that this is only April 5th and that we really need to peak towards the end of the season."

The Warriors have good reason to believe they will peak by the end of the season.  They return eight players from last year's team that finished sixth in the state.  They also bring back their top singles player, Jason Brown, who finished third in the state last season as a sophomore.
