VIDEO: Three Guys and a Truck Celebrate 10 Years

Food drive supplies West Deerfield Township Pantry with months of donated goods.

Another year, another truck load of food and supplies destined for the West thanks to 3 Guys and a Truck.

Carl Berg, Doug Bruss and Paul Zavagno, three retired Highland Park teachers, started their annual food drive in 2002.  Their goal is to get local residents to donate enough food and other items to fill one large truck, which is generally enough to supply the pantry with six months worth of supplies.

"A lot of people don't realize that we have a pantry in Deerfield," Bruss said. "It serves about 180 people, so the need is great."

The three guys also annually take part in a walk/run during the eight hour food drive, which was moved from the track to the parking lot due to construction.

This year, event organizers added a new feature called "Hands and Cans" in which volunteers lined Waukegan Road and handed donated food items to each other for about a half mile, ending at its final location by the pantry.
