VIDEO: Warriors Come Up Short in Bid for CSL North Championship
Maine East holds off late comeback bid by Deerfield, prevents Warriors from tying for conference title
The boys soccer team has figured out how to play their best when they're facing the best. After knocking off CSL South champion earlier in the year, the Blue Demons prevented from tying for a CSL North title Tuesday night by topping the Warriors 6-3 in both teams' final conference matchup of the season.
Maine East junior Rami Dajani scored three goals and Michael Walaszek added two more, as the Blue Demons pulled off the upset over Deerfield, which entered the game ranked sixth in the state.
The Warriors (13-5-1, 3-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a Joey Calistri goal (27) in the 24th minute. Dajani and Alexis Chavero scored goals over the next three minutes, giving Maine East a lead they would not relinquish.

"That was a key point in the game, when they scored those two goals," Deerfield head coach Elliot Hurtig said. "We had some lapses in the back and they were in the right place and they hit them home. Plus they have some really sweet forwards who have a lot of speed. You have to give their forwards credit for finishing the chances they had."
Second half goals by Adam Rabushka and Jason Kayne cut the Maine East (8-6-1, 2-3) lead to one goal on two separate occasions. Both times, Walaszek and Dajani combined on goals to push the lead back to two. Walaszek scored the final goal of the game with 26 seconds remaining to push the Blue Demons lead to 6-3 and secure Maine West their second conference win of the season.
