VIDEO: Warriors Earn First Win of the Season

Quarterback Brad Holway returns to Deerfield lineup and helps offense get back on track in 34-13 win over Waukegan.

The first three weeks of the high school football season could not have been much for the Deerfield Warriors.  Playing without injured quarterback , the Warriors had to face two of the top teams in the state in Maine South and Homewood-Flossmoor and started the season with an 0-3 record.

However, if Saturday's 34-13 win over Waukegan (2-2, 0-0) is any sign of things to come, the Warriors (1-3, 0-0) should be okay. Holway returned to the field and provided a spark to Warrior offense that was only able to score 20 points in the first three weeks combined.

Marc Pagano, who had filled in for Holway at quarterback during the first three games, returned to the slot position and had touchdown runs of three and five yards. Tyler Vajdic had a 34-yard touchdown run and Jeremy Kritt added a two-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Holway threw for a touchdown and an interception in his season debut. He hooked up with Joseph Harris for a touchdown on third and goal from the 10 yard line late in the third quarter. That put Deerfield ahead 20-13 and was the first of three unanswered touchdowns by the Warriors.

Waukegan was led by quarterback Reginald Richter, who threw for two touchdowns, including an 80-yard strike to Mark Jones and a two-yard toss to Kyle Williams on a fourth-and-goal play that tied the game 13-13.
