VIDEO: Warriors Regain Focus, Earn Win Over Buffalo Grove

Deerfield baseball team leads from start to finish in win over Bison, junior Brad Holway leads the charge with homer and four strikeouts.

A lack of focus early in games has hurt the baseball team in the first couple weeks of the season.  However, that was not the case in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Buffalo Grove, in which the Warriors took control right from the start.

"We talked when we got to the ballpark about making a priority to focus right away," Deerfield Head Coach Kevin Marsh said.  "We swung the bat well and put some runs on the board real quick after getting out of the first inning and that was good to see.  That's something that we're working on."

Deerfield jumped out a 2-0 lead after the first inning.  Ben Browdy lined an RBI single to right field to start the scoring.  Landon Cohen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the other first inning run.

Brad Holway led off the third inning with a solo home run to center field.  It was his second homer in the last three games.  Later in the inning, Cohen grounded to short and Browdy scored from third base.  Ben Pineless made it 5-2 by scoring on a past ball in the 6th inning.

Deerfield senior pitcher Mark Blakey picked up his first win of the season, going five innings, giving up two runs and striking out six.  Holway pitched the final two innings, striking out four.
