Three Deerfield High School boys’ basketball players scored in double figures to lead the Warriors past Maine East Thursday in Park Ridge, 64-39, for their fourth straight victory.
Eric Porter, Michael Alfieri and Jordan Baum all reached double digits as Deerfield jumped on Maine East early, taking a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and extending it to 32-23 at halftime.
The Warriors turned on a 19-11 third quarter burst to extend their margin to 51-34 and kept the momentum going in the final period holding Maine East to five points. Deerfield made 52 percent of its shots from the field.
Deerfield clamped a tight defense on the Blue Devils with 11 steals and seven deflections. Baum had five of the thefts and Porter two with Alfieri, Joseph Lane, Patrick Burns and Sam Kuznetsky snatching one each.
Porter led Deerfield’s scoring with 16 points in addition to his two steals while grabbing three rebounds, deflecting the ball twice and dishing out an assist.
Alfieri poured in 12 points while hauling down seven boards, dishing out four assists, blocking a shot and getting a steal. Baum added 10 tallies along with four assists, two deflections and a rebound. Help also came from Stefanos Fasianos and Jack Lieb with eight points each.
Winning its last four games and eight of their last nine, the Warriors improved to 12-4 for the season and 4-1 in the Central Suburban League North Division with a firm hold on second place behind Highland Park. First place will be on the line when Deerfield meets the Giants at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 in Highland Park.
