Warrior Girls Win League Cross Country Title

Deerfield High School's Abbey Osborn takes individual Central Suburban League championship. Swimmers fall to Highland Park.

The Final Score:        Deerfield High School finished first in the Central Suburban League girls’ cross country meet. 

Warriors Top Performer:    Abbey Osborn was the conference champion.

The Final Score:        Highland Park 93.5, Deerfield 92.5 

Giants Top Performers:       Winners were Caroline Kane (100-yard butterfly), Sophia Livney (100 breaststroke), Erin Cullather (diving) and the 200 medley relay team of Kane, Julia Solem, Sam Lask and Diani Cole. Lask grabbed second in the 100 breaststroke as did Livney in the 50 freestyle and Solem in the 200 individual medley. 

Warriors Top Performers:   Lauren Kurzyldo racked up four first place finishes winning the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. She teamed with Sarah Soren, Emily Hansen and Aana Tsakiris to win the 200 freestyle relay before joining Tsakiris, Maddie Wilson and Lily Booker to take the 400 freestyle relay. Tsakiris added a victory in the 50 freestyle and a second in the 100. 

Ruby Powell was also a double winner with first place finishes in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. Wilson added a win in the 100 freestyle as well as placing second in the 100 backstroke. 

Other Notable Giant Performances:           Mollie Solem swam to second in the 500 freestyle and third in the 200. Emma Gelberg added a runner up performance in the 200 individual medley while Natalie Gelberg did the same in the 200 freestyle. 

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Sabrina Linton took second in the diving competition while Hansen did the same in the 100 butterfly. 

Who’s Next:   The Giants entertain Maine West at 5:30 p.m. Friday while the Warriors travel to Maine East at 5 p.m. Friday. 

The Bottom Line:     Deerfield won more events as Highland Park won the meet on depth.
