Warrior Rally Overcomes Lake Park

Deerfield High School boys' basketball team improves to 8-3.

A 20-point surge coupled with suffocating defense in the third quarter made the difference as the Deerfield High School boys’ basketball team defeated Lake Park, 54-42, Monday in the opening round of the Wheeling Hardwood Classic.

Trailing, 22-16, at halftime, the Warriors went on a 20-point run in the third quarter while holding Lake Park to seven tallies turning a four-point deficit into a 36-29 advantage. Deerfield continued to build its edge in the final period.

Stefanos Fasianos, Eric Porter and Michael Alfieri led the way for Deerfield as Fasianos scored 12 points, snagged eight rebounds, dished out five assists, and stole the ball once. Porter tallied 12 as well along with four assists, two steals and a pair of rebounds.

Alfieri chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds and a deflection. Patrick Burns contributed nine points going four for four from the field as well as hauling down two boards and deflecting the ball once.

Deerfield advances to the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against St. Viator. The Warriors are now 8-3 for the season.
