Warrior goaltender Bailey Bradford and defenders Claire Mulert, Haley Greer, Maddy Otto and Jesse Holloway kept St. Viator off the board for the remainder of extra time. “(They) made it stand up,” Coach Rich Grady said.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first half on Trishie Schweinfurth’s unassisted goal, Deerfield kept the edge heading into intermission before St. Viator went ahead, 3-1, with less than 20 minutes to play.

The Lions ended the Warriors 2012 season in the Sectional semifinal. Deerfield did not let history repeat itself. “The Warriors refused to concede the game,” Grady said after the Lions surged ahead, 3-1.

Things started to turn around when Kellow was fouled in the penalty area with 16:18 remaining and Schweinfurth kicked the penalty shot into the net to put her team within one. Six minutes later there was a scramble for a loose ball in front of the St. Viator goal. Mulert found it and sent it into the goal to tie the game.
