Warriors Hold Back Wheeling for 6th Win

Four Deerfield High School boys' basketball player score in double figures in victory.

Holding off a fourth quarter rally, four Deerfield High School basketball players scored in double figures Saturday to lead the Warriors to their sixth victory of the season, a 69-65 decision over Wheeling at home in a non conference game.

Eric Porter, Michael Alfieri, Samuel Kuznetsky and Stefanos Fasianos all cracked double digit scoring to lead a balanced Deerfield attack. Porter tallied 15 points, Alfieri 15, Kuznetsky 13 and Fasianos 10.

Deerfield jumped out to a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and built it to a 31-25 advantage by intermission. The Warriors improved their margin to 47-35 at the end of three periods before the Wildcats went on a 30-22 binge in the fourth.

Alfieri also contributed seven rebounds while Kuznetsky dished out three assists and stole the ball twice. Jordan Baum had three assists along with three rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

The Warriors improved to 6-3 for the season and return to Central Suburban League North Division competition when they entertain Maine West at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Deerfield is 1-1 in league play.
