Deerfield High School soccer team upends Vernon Hills before tying Mundelein.

The Final Score:  Deerfield 1, Vernon Hills 0 

Warriors’ Star Performers:             Mitchell Doppelt scored the winning score and Troy Kayne had a shutout in goal.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Jack Bizar added offensive punch while the defense was led by Jay Lehrman, Matt Grady, Doppelt and Evan Gerke, according to Coach Rich Grady.

The Bottom Line: After a scoreless first half, Doppelt’s penalty kick with six minutes remaining in the game was the difference maker. The victory was Deerfield’s first of the season.

Sept. 9 

The Final Score:  Deerfield 2, Mundelein 2 

Warriors’ Star Performers:             Jamie Akerson and Charlie Kogan each had a goal.

Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Doppelt added an assist while goalies Kayne and Gavin Greenberg combined for 11 saves.

Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Evanston at 7 p.m. Wednesday. 

The Bottom Line: After falling behind in the first half, the Warriors did not dent the scoreboard until the 53rd minute when Ackerson’s unassisted goal brought Deerfield within one tally of the lead. Seven minutes later, Kogan got the ball past the Mustang keeper to give his team a tie. Deerfield is now 1-4-1 for the year.
