Warriors Wear Regional Soccer Crown

Christine Stitcher advances to pole vault finals at State Track Meet.

Emily Kellow scored a pair of goals and keeper Sarah Ginn let nothing get by her as the Deerfield High School soccer team defeated Grayslake North, 2-0, tonight to win the Regional championship at Adams Field and advance to next week’s Sectional at Lakes.

Kellow and Ginn made the difference in the score, but all the Warriors added to the win in a significant manner, according to Coach Rich Grady.

“It was a total team victory,” Grady said. “Each player made contributions in this game. The seniors played really well,” he added referring in part to people playing positions not usually in their repertoire.

One of those athletes was Trishie Schweinfurth who usually plays outside midfielder. “They put me in the middle and it was crazy. It shows how we can all play so well.”

Kellow got the Warriors on the board in the first five minutes when Margot Sylvan sent a pass her way and she put it in the net. The lead held up throughout the game before she put Grayslake on ice with three minutes remaining.

Logan Just came down the side and got the ball to Kellow. “Logan (Just) was dribbling really well,” Kellow said. “She got me the ball (close), the keeper went right and I put it in the upper left hand corner.”

Stitcher Advances to Pole Vault Finals

Deerfield High School Pole vaulter Christine Stitcher advanced to the championship round of the State Meet with her preliminary round performance today at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Stitcher was one of 10 vaulters to clear 11-0 and move into a position to become a state champion. Three more qualifiers advanced with a leap of 10-9. Stitcher’s Sectional jump last week of 11-3 tied her for the third best height of all qualifiers.

Warrior sprinter Hayley Dorfman ran a 12.82 100-meter dash. She was three tenths of a second away from advancing to Saturday’s championship run.
