DYBA kick's off its 11th Annual Deerfield Wooden Bat Tournament this Father's Day Weekend

Deerfield Youth Baseball Association (DYBA) kick's off its 11th Annual Deerfield Wooden Bat Tournament (WBT) this Father's Day Weekend, June 13th through 16th.

A total of 52 teams, ranging in age from 8U to 14U, will be suiting up and squaring off at six different parks across Deerfield.  Teams from across Chicago-land make the annual trek to Deerfield to play in what has become one of the most exciting and unique baseball tournaments in the state.  Even though it looks the same, the game takes on an entirely different bend when the boys put away their more modern aluminum bats in exchange for old-school wooden ones.  "There is something inherently pure about playing baseball with wooden bats," said Tournament Director and Co-President of Deerfield Travel Baseball, Paul Chanan.  "Kids today love to watch the major-leaguers swinging the wood, but most of these boys never do it themselves, with the exception of this week in Deerfield," added Chanan.  "And I think it takes many of us old-timers back in time to our own childhoods, when the sound of a baseball being hit by a wooden bat was one of the most beautiful sounds of summer."

Well over 100 volunteers from across Deerfield help organize and run the full-service tournament, which includes concessions, merchandise, a Bat-fest party and of course a lot of great baseball.  "We in Deerfield are very proud of our baseball program, and are very proud of this event," added Chanan.  "Father's Day is always special in Deerfield!"
