Deerfield and Bannockburn Chiefs Ready for Face Off ... Over Burgers

The hot competition — a burger grill-off — pits Deerfield Police Chief Tom Keane against Bannockburn Police Chief Ron Price at Whole Foods Market Deerfield this Saturday. All proceeds go to the Special Olympics.

Deerfield and Bannockburn police chiefs Tom Keane and Ron Price have been testing out their burger recipes before the annual grill off, which will be held Saturday from 1-3p.m. outside of Whole Foods Market Deerfield.

Customers can vote on their favorite burger, and the winning police chief will receive a catered meal for his department.

“It’s really just for some camaraderie and fun with the community,” Deerfield Communication Director Mary Ann Glowacz said.

The chiefs are ready to have fun, but it’s still a competition. Last year the Deerfield police and fire departments faced off, and the police department won by three votes.

Deerfield chief Tom Keane is confident that Deerfield Police Department will take the prize again. “It’s a winning recipe. We’ll just repeat it,” he said.

Bannockburn chief Ron Price has been preparing for the event as well. He said he and his wife have been experimenting all week. “We’ve come up with an award-winning recipe to spice up our burgers,” he said.

Keane and Price’s main goal is to raise money for the Special Olympics charity, which gives men, women and children who are intellectually disabled a chance to participate in athletic training and Olympic-style sports.

Each plate costs $6, with all proceeds going to the Special Olympics.
