Deerfield Celebrates Fourth of July With Parade

Many participate in a key event of 50th Family Day as thousands more watch.

Befitting Deerfield’s 50th Family Days Parade, former long time mayor and event founder Bernard Forrest helped lead the event as the grand marshal today trough the Village’s downtown.

After the Deerfield Police Department led off the parade, the Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Protection District was out on full force with a cavalcade of trucks. The fire department was one of this year’s special honorees. It is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

Behind Forrest was current Mayor Harriet Rosenthal followed by members of the Village Board of Trustees. There were a number of bands including three featuring bagpipes. Deerfield High School was well represented with its football team and cheerleader.

State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) walked the route along with state Rep. Scott Drury (D-Highwood), Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran, West Deerfield Township Supervisor Alyson Feiger and members of the Township Board of Trustees.

There were a number of creative floats including one depicting “The Secret Garden,” the fall show scheduled by the Deerfield Community Theater.
