It's Time for the Lake County Fair

The Lake County Fair, July 25-29, will have several new features including a flower and garden show, new rides, competitions and more.

Preparations for the 84th annual Lake County Fair are in full swing at the fairgrounds on Peterson Road in Grayslake.

From prized livestock to pig wings, fabulous food to ferris wheels, competitive exhibits to exciting entertainment the Fair promises a great time for the entire family.

This year fair-goers can expect several new changes, possibly the most noticeable will be the Fair's partnership with the Chicago Flower and Garden Show which will offer gardening displays, plant information stations, demonstrations, a mini-marketplace and more.

"We are so excited about this partnership," said Sheri Vyfvinkel, General Manager of the Lake County Fair. "It's great for us to be working with an already established event yet keeping the tradition of the fair strong and still bringing in new things."

The Chicago Flower and Garden Show is one of the oldest events in Chicago. This is the first time it is going on the road. President Tony Abruscato said they want to reinvent their show to help people transition from agriculture to horticulture.

"We hope people will be motivated to do something with the green space," Abruscato said.

The Flower and Garden Show will be open the entire run of the Fair. It is located on the north side of the Goat Barns.

Other big events at the fair include the Monster Truck Shows and Pit Party where the audience can meet the drivers and get autographs, ride on the monster trucks and more. There will be pie-eating and pig wing-eating contests, a blue grass and old time hootenanny, banana derby racing, rides, games, exhibits, animals, and so much more.
