July 4th Festivities Start Tuesday

Annual fireworks display set to go off at 9:15 p.m. at Brickyards Park.

Deerfield officially starts its Fourth of July festivities at 5 p.m. today when the gates open at Brickyard Park for picnicking, entertainment and .

Unlike most municipalities that have their fireworks shows on the Fourth of July, starting the celebration on July 3 has become a Deerfield tradition.

“It gives us two days of fun for the community to come together and celebrate,” Mayor Harriet Rosenthal said.

Concessions will start at 5 p.m. today for food and soft drinks followed by a deejay from Bizar Entertainment at 6 p.m. The American Legion will hold its annual presentation of the colors at 7 p.m. along with the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner.”

Only handicapped parking will be allowed in the park according to Andrew Lichterman, an assistant to Village Manager Kent Street. Sufficient parking will be available at the Patty Turner Center and the 500 Corporate Center near the intersection of Kates and Pfingston Roads.
