Photo Gallery: Farmers’ Market Draws Crowd in Heat

Civic groups join vendors selling fruits, vegetables and other wares.

While the is stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables of the season, the community element of the event was on display Saturday.

Each week one or more booths are reserved for civic groups, according to event coordinator Joan Reed. In the past, church, school and community organizations have taken a turn communicating their message.

This week it was the as Director Diane Moyano staffed the booth with colleagues Kathy Kaczkowski of Arlington Heights and Kim Engler of Northbrook.

“We’re here to provide information on the school, keep people hydrated and have fun,” Moyano said.

If people wanted a chance to visit with Mayor Harriet Rosenthal or Village Trustee Tom Jester, they did not have to go further than the table by the market’s entrance. Rosenthal and Jester spent the morning giving anyone with a question the opportunity to ask.
