District 109 Students Heading to Destination Imagination Global Championship

Normally I write about how autism has impacted our family and I will touch on that briefly. For now, I wanted to mention the incredible job that District 109 students have done in regards to Destination Imagination. "The mission and purpose of Illinois Destination ImagiNation is to provide Illinois with a fun creative problem solving environment centered on the learning of creativity, teamwork, and problem solving."

A total of six District 109 teams will be attending Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville Tennessee next month. This a huge honor since it means that our Deerfield teams will be competing against children from 45 states, 7 Canadian provinces, and 13 countries. In order to get to this point, District 109 students had to compete in the Illinois Far North Regional competition, place in the top spots in order to advance to the state finals. Then they had to beat other Illinois teams in order to move forward to the Global finals. Attending this competition also comes with a price tag of about $1,000 per student when you factor in transportation, registration, accomodation and meal costs. A number of the teams and individual team members will be raising funds to cover these costs. My own son is raising funds.

I would kindly ask that you consider a donation to any District 109 student who is raising funds for this competition. These children have given up many weekends and after school hours to prepare for this event. They have worked incredibly hard to reach this point.
