Mayor Proclaims Relay for Life Days

Village recognizes significance of cancer fundraiser.

Mayor Harriet Rosenthal proclaimed Relay for Life days in Deerfield during Monday’s night’s village board meeting.

The proclamation comes just days before the American Cancer Society’s annual event in Highland Park and Deerfield kicks off this weekend.

This year the overnight fundraiser is being held at Wolters Field in Highland Park. According to event organizers, “Teams of local businesses, schools, churches, community groups and families raise funds - prior to and at the event - to help fund support services for area patients and their families, cancer research, community educational programs and advocacy initiatives.”

Those teams will be participating in a relay from 6 p.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday.

“I’ve gotten to a point where I can’t let go of it,” Walgreens employee Al Carter told village trustees about his experience volunteering for Relay for Life. Carter along with other volunteers have been working tirelessly to get ready for this weekend’s event.
