Battle of Bannockburn: Which North Shore Town Grills Best?

Annual Bannockburn Barbeque Challenge heads weekend that includes sports, art and more.

Barbeque Challenge

Deerfield, Bannockburn, Riverwoods, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff and Kildeer will send their best cooking representatives to Bannockburn from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Bannockburn Green Shopping Center.

Along with live music, each town will compete for best ribs, best brisket and best side. There will be people’s choice winners as well as a panel of judges headed by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and state Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield).

Tony Esposito To Signs Autographs at Deerfield Tire

Before you head to the Barbeque Challenge, you can stop and get an autograph from former Chicago Blackhawk Tony Esposito at 11 a.m. at Deerfield Tire. There will also be games and the Falcons hockey team will be doing a fundraiser.

Disc Golf Tournament

Want to play golf with a disc rather than clubs? Take part in the Deerfield Park District’s free tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday at Keller and Shepard Parks.

Enjoy Highland Park’s Big Weekend

If you are up for a trip to the east, check out a Taste of Highland Park and the annual Port Clinton Art Festival. The dining goes from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The art exhibitors will be out from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
