This is the best time of year for the farmers’ market, in my opinion. Booths are bursting with summer fruits and veggies — the corn has been particularly good recently. Stock up on Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Metra commuter lot on Deerfield Road and eat well all weekend.
After you stock up at the farmers’ market, head to the Chicago Botanic Gardens for a cooking demonstration from chef Ivan Yuen at the Shanghai Terrace at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago. He’ll use ingredients from the garden in his demonstration at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
