Music, Lectures Abound in Deerfield

Neighboring Highland Park plans day of service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King's memory.

Synagogues, Churches Offer lectures, music and more

If you’re looking for something different to do this weekend, Deerfield’s churches and synagogues have a variety of programs in addition to their usual religious services.

The North Suburban Church is sponsoring a game night with a taco dinner at 6 p.m. Friday while Rachel Haverlock will talk about the Bible of Israel at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Congregation B’nai Tikvah. You can also celebrate the Jewish Holiday of Tu B’Shevat at an event sponsored by the Jewish National Fund and the United States Forest Service at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Chicagoland Jewish High School.

Highland Park’s Day of Service Set Monday

Highland Park will hold its fifth annual Day of Service in observance of the national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Recreation Center of Highland Park.

Sponsored by the City’s Human Relations Commission and the Park District of Highland Park, there will be a host of activities including packaging toiletries for PADS, delivering food for the Moraine Township Food Pantry, creating valentine messages for American troops, filling book bags for distribution at the North Shore Health Center, quilting, making items for animals at pet shelters and much more.

There will be entertainment too. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will talk to the group about his experiences with King and there will be a performance by the Jesse White Tumblers.

Movies, City Activities and More
