Lake County Sheriff Arrests Alleged Heroin Dealers After Wauconda Death

Two Waukegan suspects arrested at Wauconda forest preserve; Waukegan man charged with drug induced homicide in relation to death of 26-year-old Wauconda man.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), made two arrests and seized heroin in the course of investigating the death of a 26 year-old Wauconda man who died from a heroin overdose in the morning hours on May 16.    According to a news release from the LCSO, Deputies and Coroner investigators called in CID after determining the scene reflected the death was the result of a drug overdose.  In an investigation led by Det. Chris Covelli, members of CID were able to identify the probable source of the heroin and subsequently were able to establish contact with that individual. Warriors Win First Ever Regional Crown

Deerfield girls’ soccer team blanks Vernon Hills for title as Warriors go undefeated at home this year.

Deerfield High School’s girls’ soccer team completed an undefeated home season at Adams Field Friday night going unscored upon throughout its own Regional by defeating Vernon Hills, 2-0, for the title. The Warriors made it 8-0-5 for the year at home and 12-4-8 so far this year overall by taking the school’s first ever girls’ regional soccer crown. A 5-0 semifinal win Wednesday over Von Steuben left Deerfield unscored upon in league play. The team has yielded only six goals at home all year. The teams were scoreless for the first 32 minutes when one of the Cougars touched the ball with her hand near the goal. Award winning writer wants to help women deal with suburban life.

Award winning Deerfield author Lisa Barr wants to help local mothers with life in the suburbs as she launched her website, GIRLilla Warfare: A Mom’s Guide to Surviving the Suburban Jungle this month, according to a news release. The website was created to motivate women to deal with what Barr describes as their real enemies allowing them to blog real stories by women to help them deal with the suburban lifestyle, according to the release. Late last month Barr’s award winning novel, “Fugitive Colors,” debuted on Amazon.com after winning first prize at the Hollywood Film Festival for Best Unpublished Manuscript. Walden 4th Grader Wins Park District Chess Tournament

Jonah Winter takes first place in competition between grades four through eight.

When it comes to chess, Walden Elementary School fourth grader Jonah Winter does not let his elders scare him. Winter won the overall first place award May 12 at the Deerfield Park District’s chess tournament coming out ahead of all players in grades four through eight. The top team at the tourney was the contingent from South Park Elementary School of Danica Sun, Ethan Lesser, Patrick Carrow, Eric Rosenson, Purvendra Bhatt and Joshua Rosenson. Carrow also took the championship trophy among the third graders and Rosenson did the same in the fifth grade grouping. Have you seen the shocker on the cover of this week’s Time magazine? Our jaws dropped when we picked up the issue: it’s $4.99!  We bought it anyway, because of the provocative photo and headline:  “Are You Mom Enough?” Surely you’ve seen the picture of the chilly looking twenty-six year old mother standing erect and staring blankly at the camera as her three-year-old son, old enough to stand on a wooden chair, is suction cupped to her nipple, having a little snack.   The article details a worrisome trend in child rearing called “Attachment Parenting.” There’s a lot of posturing in the article, which we’ll sum up as follows: as soon as the doctor cuts the cord, a mother’s life is over.  We paraphrase, of course. Boys’ Lacrosse Team Edges Hoffman Estates

Volleyball squad upends Maine East, girls’ lacrosse unit ends season with loss.

DC Sarnies Has Deerfield’s Best Burger

The latest Patch Readers’ Choice winner was the leader by a large margin.

DC Sarnies was the runaway winner for this week’s Readers’ Choice award for the best hamburger in Deerfield. Of the 247 people who cast ballots, 116 voted for DC Sarnies while 31 liked Townhouse best, 30 prefer Boston Blackies and 24 chose Tom & Eddies. Others receiving votes were Carson’s, Cooker’s, Dear Franks, Rhapsody Café and Trax Tavern and Grill. 8 Warriors Qualify for State Track Meet

Katz, Rabushka, Williams and Middlebrook will compete in two events each.

May 17  Boys’ Track  The Final Score:        Deerfield finished fifth out of 16 teams at the Sectional Meet with 51.5 points.  Warriors Star Performers:  Danny Katz, Adam Rabushka, Luke Williams and Donald Middlebrook will compete in two events at the State Meet. Katz took second in the 110-meter high hurdles and joined Middlebrook, Williams and Geoff Heiser to place fourth in the 4x200 relay. Rabushka grabbed second in the 300 intermediate hurdles and was part of the quartet of Williams, Middlebrook and Tristan Nunez who ended up fifth in the 4x400 relay.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Makoto Bowering was fourth in the 800 while Alex Gold finished fifth in the 3,200.  Who’s Next:   The eight Warriors will compete in the State …
