The only thing that moves these two Constitution trampling baboons is the ultimate war on women withRead More late term abortions.

Pffft. Honor and integrity Mary Beth? You mean like Mr. Obama honoring our vets by closing down andRead More barricading the WWII open park memorial? Integrity, like Mr. Obama's repeated statements over years of you like your health insurance you can keep your health insurance period. As Ronald Reagan said - it isn't so much that Mary Beth is ignorant, it just that she knows so many things that just aren't so.

"As Ronald Reagan said - it isn't so much that Mary Beth is ignorant, it just that she knows soRead More many things that just aren't so." How about some more integrity with your citations, bro.

+1 for Stephanie. The problems soooooo go beyond a business or two. I hope someone soon takes aRead More couple steps back and starts thinking about village planning on a wholistic basis. Deerfield's issues aren't going to get solved with one or two businesses. It's going to take several years and many good choices. Please, please, please, if you're out there with strong experience in the village, and considering running for mayor, please do it!!! We need options - not the same ol', same ol'.

Deerfield's population isn't *that* low compared to our successful, fun, neighbors that haveRead More happening commercial districts with good restaurants and small businesses. V. Hills is at 20,000, Lincolnshire is 7,000, Northbrook is 33,000, and Lake Forest is 19,000. Deerfield is at 18,000. Problems are bigger than population!

What are some restaurants that thrive in our fine Village? It's hard to tell. McDonalds andRead More Panera seem to do very well. Chipotle is always busy. The fast-casual vibe seems to fit our town pretty well. I wish we had an actual concentrated area of a few blocks that had decent things to eat and buy. And a movie theater. All within site lines of the street so people knew of their existence. Anyone else notice that the small liquor store on Waukegan road finally has a bit of a window-front with a small neon sign? It's been up for a few months now. Pretty cool and now people that drive by know we have a liquor store. I wonder how much balking there was when the owners took down the brown tarp covering that window and unveiled an actual store-front. Maybe some of the issues deal with village ordinances that aren't conducive to businesses? I don't know. I am a lowly citizen.

is'nt it criminal to knowingly blow your mind before getting in a car to drive. it seems that a DUIRead More with alcohol is criminal, what's the difference?? just a different substance... If that's the case anyone getting drunk and in an accident should only be charged with negligent driving!!!
Benny G. March 1, 2014 at 04:42 pm
STU, how many times to I have to type this. The law goes to INTENT!!!!!!!!!! If a crime happensRead More and someone intended it to happen it is judged much more harshly then if someone did not intend it to happen. Is that so difficult to get your pine seed sized brain around? Yes, it is criminal to drive drunk. The law is "hazy" when it comes to driving while huffing even though to the layperson they can be considered similar actions. In the eyes of the law they are NOT. This is what makes this case a little bizarre. "Criminal Negligence" was written into the law for all of these unintended deaths that occur. The penalties can be stiff but are less than murder charges and penalties.

When the advisory is lifted, PLEASE don't forget to shovel your sidewalks! Yes, it's been unusuallyRead More cold. Yes, we've had more snow than in recent winters. But commuters still need to walk to trains, kids need to get to buses & schools, and the dedicated still need to get outdoors to walk/jog/run. The Village takes care of the sidewalks in busy areas and around schools, but it's up to us to shovel the rest. It only takes a few minutes. Please be considerate.
Bringin' Down Briarwood January 21, 2014 at 04:20 pm
OMG, yes, AJ!!!! Have you ever seen a community worse about shoveling sidewalks? What a bunch ofRead More slackers. My favorite was the poor kid I saw on crutches trying to negotiate through the usual icy Deerfield walks. Get off your bums and shovel!

Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) voted in favor of a bipartisan budget measure Wednesday.
Michael Ioffe January 16, 2014 at 06:33 am
Democrats, Republicans, Obama's administration has wrong advisers in economy and climate change.Read More These two sciences are responsible for most economical problems not only in USA, but in all world's countries. Bipartisan Budget Effort is useless, if both parties are having the same wrong advisers. Please someone tell this to Mr. Schneider.

Brad, it isn't your job to "give everyone everything they want". In fact, it isn't yourRead More job to give anyone anything they want. You swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and protect our rights as they are defined in that document. That's your job description.
McCloud January 16, 2014 at 10:42 am
Now you can get your Santa Claus two ways, bi-partisan style.
All snow in downtown Deerfield and Village owned parking lots will be removed Friday night.

I think Deerfield does an awesome, thorough job with the roads. I'm disappointed, however, with theRead More conditions of sidewalks. Are there some sidewalks that the village is responsible for clearing, esp near schools? I don't know the answer to this. I know that shoveling sidewalks is a requested courtesy on the part of homeowners. The aforementioned Warrington & Warwick is an area where I walk daily (as do students when school is in session). More times than not, I shake my head in disbelief at how icy and unsafe the sidewalks are. When you think about it, Deerfield is just not that large an area, and with 6 DPS schools + Holy Cross + DHS, you'd think that residents would be more cognizant of the sheer number of kids on foot. We also have so many dog walkers and runners who are affected.
Kristine Jackson January 4, 2014 at 10:27 am
They did an amazing job!! My only concern every year is the sidewalks that lead to the schools. TheRead More kids have to walk on the streets to get to them.
Mark Myers January 5, 2014 at 01:52 am
Yes, amazing job. I live across from the library and I heard them removing and beeping well intoRead More the 2 am hours. Glad the snow was removed without any respect to the residents in the area and their children trying to sleep.
Will another five inches block the view of Deerfield Square's stores?

Great suggestion, AJ. Thanks.
Jon Hall January 2, 2014 at 07:29 pm
The village should be performing this service.
Betsy Boutet Nepomuceno January 3, 2014 at 12:21 pm
I agree. My daughter walks to school and is legitimately afraid of spraining her ankle! PeopleRead More PLEASE take a little time to keep our kids safe. Allow them to walk on the sidewalks not make them go in the streets with all the traffic!
