Jeansam, have you followed this whole story? It sounds like you haven't. You should read some otherRead More articles before you assume that she just gave up on the students considering that this article says she was in this district since 2001. Horwitz, went on medical leave, she was denied from the district to meet her needs that she needed. I think you should read previous articles, go to the Deerfield Review from last year, or previous patch articles before assuming that she gave up on the kids. Perhaps the consulting into help the families who were being I adequately served?!?'

And this author has it wrong, she went on medical leave in sept of 2001; she didn't just walk out.Read More Pretty sure if she did that the district would not have waited until December of the following year to begin termination process, which apparently didn't happen. Settlements in cases might not admit any wrong doing on either side, but you don't settle a case if ere was no wrong doing, nor would the other side pay if there was no wrong doing in my opinion.

I think Michael Jordan's ego is about half the size of this lady's. And she left the district worseRead More than she when she started!

I attended this event, and I can assure that all the speeches were good except the Superintendent'sRead More and the student commencement speaker. North Shore problems should not be the topic of a graduation speech. They are supposed to be motivational.

Most certainly.

I have to say it was a totally different meeting than I'm used to. First off, at least three peopleRead More got up to say thank you for one thing or another. Secondly, the three new board members were engaged and asked some great questions about the agenda items directly related to instruction, namely assessments and the special ed presentation. Good, relevent, targeted questions. All three have an excellent level of understanding of how a school district works and what are the right questions to ask.

The issue isn't so much which language is offered but that there is a language choice for middleRead More school students. Wilmette, Glencoe and Winnetka all offer a choice of languages to their middle school students. Offering multiple languages enhances our world language program, which strengthens our schools and, ultimately, our real estate values.
Walter White May 23, 2013 at 07:55 pm
Oh, cool. So let's hire 10 different language teachers to have on staff so we can say that we'reRead More offering languages. Then our property values will skyrocket.

The decision to drop French has nothing to do with French instruction or learning. We are droppingRead More French because we are adopting the "block" teaching system. The question I have is "How will we know whether the "block" system is a real improvement over our current approach? What is the measure we will use to make that judgement? What is the current level of that measurement? No one has announced that measure, where we are now, or where we hope to get using this approach. Unfortunately, this is just another example of our school administration making more "feel-good" decision making. The old school board never saw through this sloppy thinking. Let's hope that the new board holds the administration's feet to the fire for real answers. I don't think that is asking too much.

As someone who has no dog in this race, it does seem odd that one language that has a more thanRead More twice as many students as two other languages is the one that is cut.
