Lake County's Largest Job Fair Thursday

Looking for work? More than 70 employers will be represented at the College of Lake County's job fair on Thursday.

Job seekers are invited to attend the JobMarketPlace Job Fair on Thursday, May 23, sponsored by the College of Lake County Career and Placement Services office. The fair will be held from 1-5 p.m. in the P.E. Center, Building 7, 19351 W. Washington St., in Grayslake. This is Lake County’s largest job fair, where participants can explore full-time, part-time, seasonal and professional job opportunities with more than 70 employers. In 2012, about 50 employers attended the annual job fair, according to Sylvia Johnson Jones, executive director of the CLC Career and Placement Services office. Prom Fun Was Just the Beginning

For a sixth year in a row, the Deerfield High School Prom After Party exceeded all expectations, delivering an incredibly entertaining—and safe—evening for nearly 450 local students, a record number of attendees. The teens poured into the Deerfield Park District’s Sachs Center—which generously donated the venue for the event—at midnight Saturday, straight off the buses returning from their formal prom in downtown Chicago. Distance Runners Seek State Track Medals

Deerfield’s Alex Gold, Highland Park’s Jonah Hanig and Angel Estrada along with New Trier’s Peter Cotsirilos are all in contention.

Deerfield High School distance runner Alex Gold and his Highland Park High School counterpart Jonah Hanig have been friends for a long time and like to help each other out. Though Gold and Hanig will be trying to medal in both the 3,200-meter run and the 1,600 at the State Meet Friday and Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, look for them to assist each other there too. Athletes from 17 area schools competed for berths in the State Track Meet during the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie. Take a look for your favorite athlete and see who is going to the State Meet Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Patch gave you the story in words Friday and now we have it in pictures. Stitcher Medals at State Track Meet

Deerfield High School pole vaulter earns eighth place medal in record seventh state meet.

For Christine Stitcher the seventh time was the charm as one of Deerfield High School’s finest athletes in history closed her prep career with a medal in the pole vault at the State Meet today at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Earlier: Stitcher Hopes To Qualify for Three State Meets A diver, gymnast and pole vaulter, Stitcher had been to six state meets before in those three sports but had yet to earn a medal. Last year she wanted to reach statewide competition three times and this term he wanted a medal. She got it today. No Warrior has gone to a state meet more times than Stitcher, according to gymnastics Coach Carol Myers. This time she was one of 10 athletes to clear the bar at 11-0 in Friday’s preliminary round to qualify …

Warriors Win Sectional Tennis Title

All Deerfield High School participants advance to State Meet.

After three years of playing second fiddle to teammate Jason Brown’s first violin, Deerfield High School tennis star Toby Ma moved into the first chair today when he won the Highland Park Sectional championship. Ma defeated fellow Warrior Jack Kasbeer, 6-2, 6-4, to take the singles title after three years of finishing second in the meet to Brown, the 2012 state champion. Ma and Kasbeer both advance to the State Meet Thursday through Saturday at Hersey High School. Warriors Wear Regional Soccer Crown

Emily Kellow scored a pair of goals and keeper Sarah Ginn let nothing get by her as the Deerfield High School soccer team defeated Grayslake North, 2-0, tonight to win the Regional championship at Adams Field and advance to next week’s Sectional at Lakes. Kellow and Ginn made the difference in the score, but all the Warriors added to the win in a significant manner, according to Coach Rich Grady. Get local news in a daily email from Patch. Evanston Takes Sectional Track Crown

Glenbrook South, New Trier, Deerfield, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine West, Maine South, Notre Dame, Niles North and Loyola athletes will join Wildkits at State Meet.

Taking home the team trophy for the sixth straight year, the Evanston High School boys track team won the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie sending five individuals and three relay teams to the State Meet May 24 and 25 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston The Wildkits compiled 85 points. Glenbrook South took home second place with 72 followed by Prospect in third with 70 and New Trier fourth with 58. Niles West accumulated 47 for fifth with  Deerfield sixth, Main South seventh, Niles North eighth, Highland Park ninth place, Notre Dame of Niles tenth, Maine West 11th , Loyola Academy 12th, Maine East 13th\, Glenbrook North 14th and Von Steuben 15th. Deerfield HS Students 'Jam for Justice'

A music and human rights festival will be held at DHS 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday to raise awareness and funds for school supplies for Chicago Public Schools students.

Students in the Human Rights Club at Deerfield High School will host an event Friday highlighting the issue of education inequality in the United States and abroad. The "Jam for Justice: a Music and Human Rights Festival," will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, in the school’s courtyard. The main attraction is student bands that will perform during lunch hours.  Between acts, guest speakers will highlight the message that education is a human right and will share ways in which education inequities in the Chicago area and abroad can be addressed.  Fund-raising at the event will benefit various initiatives of Supplies for Dreams in the CPS schools: Attendees can also purchase Trax pizza, popcorn, DQ Blizzards, lemonade or Fair Trade …

Notable Lake Forest Resident to be CLC Commencement Speaker

Reboot Parnters, Inc. Chairman Dean DeBiase will be the College of Lake County's commencement speaker.

Lake Forest resident Dean DeBiase, a former College of Lake County student who gained distinction as a Silicon Valley and Chicago business leader, will be the keynote speaker at the college’s commencement ceremony on Saturday. DeBiase, who transferred from CLC a few credits short of earning a degree, will also receive an honorary associate degree and the Illinois Outstanding Citizen Award. A co-author with Seth Godin of the best-selling business book The Big Moo: Stop Trying to Be Perfect and Start Being Remarkable, DeBiase’s keynote address, "Semper Paratus," will touch on the entrepreneurial movement and content from a new book he is developing.
