Stitcher Medals at State Track Meet

Deerfield High School pole vaulter earns eighth place medal in record seventh state meet.

For Christine Stitcher the seventh time was the charm as one of Deerfield High School’s finest athletes in history closed her prep career with a medal in the pole vault at the State Meet today at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Earlier: Stitcher Hopes To Qualify for Three State Meets A diver, gymnast and pole vaulter, Stitcher had been to six state meets before in those three sports but had yet to earn a medal. Last year she wanted to reach statewide competition three times and this term he wanted a medal. She got it today. No Warrior has gone to a state meet more times than Stitcher, according to gymnastics Coach Carol Myers. Warriors Win Sectional Tennis Title

All Deerfield High School participants advance to State Meet.

After three years of playing second fiddle to teammate Jason Brown’s first violin, Deerfield High School tennis star Toby Ma moved into the first chair today when he won the Highland Park Sectional championship. Ma defeated fellow Warrior Jack Kasbeer, 6-2, 6-4, to take the singles title after three years of finishing second in the meet to Brown, the 2012 state champion. Ma and Kasbeer both advance to the State Meet Thursday through Saturday at Hersey High School. Warriors Wear Regional Soccer Crown

Emily Kellow scored a pair of goals and keeper Sarah Ginn let nothing get by her as the Deerfield High School soccer team defeated Grayslake North, 2-0, tonight to win the Regional championship at Adams Field and advance to next week’s Sectional at Lakes. Kellow and Ginn made the difference in the score, but all the Warriors added to the win in a significant manner, according to Coach Rich Grady. Get local news in a daily email from Patch. Evanston Takes Sectional Track Crown

Glenbrook South, New Trier, Deerfield, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine West, Maine South, Notre Dame, Niles North and Loyola athletes will join Wildkits at State Meet.

Taking home the team trophy for the sixth straight year, the Evanston High School boys track team won the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie sending five individuals and three relay teams to the State Meet May 24 and 25 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston The Wildkits compiled 85 points. Glenbrook South took home second place with 72 followed by Prospect in third with 70 and New Trier fourth with 58. Niles West accumulated 47 for fifth with  Deerfield sixth, Main South seventh, Niles North eighth, Highland Park ninth place, Notre Dame of Niles tenth, Maine West 11th , Loyola Academy 12th, Maine East 13th\, Glenbrook North 14th and Von Steuben 15th. Warriors Blank Regina in Soccer Regional

Top seeded Deerfield High School soccer team plays for regional title Friday.

A stifling defense and the right amount of offense made the difference as the top seeded Deerfield High School soccer team set a school record defeating Regina Dominican High School, 2-0, Tuesday at Adams Field. The Warrior defense prevented the Panthers from even getting a shot at goalies Sarah Ginn and Sam Soloway. The pair recorded a shutout without a save thanks to the defense. Earlier: Warriors Produce State Qualifiers, League Champs Samara Haas put Deerfield on the board 2:15 into the game when she got a pass from Margot Sylvan and shot the ball 35 yards into the net over the goal keeper’s head, according to Coach Rich Grady. Warrior Volleyball Team Smacks Libertyville

Deerfield High School baseball and lacrosse squads fall.

May 13  Volleyball  The Final Score:        Deerfield defeated Libertyville, 25-13, 25-22. Warriors Star Performers: Jordan Fine dished out 22 assists along with six digs and a kill. John Harlan scored on 10 kills while adding five digs and an ace. Other Notable Warrior Performances: Zach Hara chipped in eight digs, four kills and an assist while Jake Brody contributed eight digs and an assist. Helping out with five kills and a pair of digs was Grayson Peacock as Kenison Ready had four kill and a dig. Spinello Wins 2 Medals at State Gym Meet

Deerfield High School gymnasts, badminton team show prowess at State Finals.

Brian Spinello won two gymnastics medals at the State Meet Saturday at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfurt to turn in the best Deerfield High School performance out of nine athletes who were part of state tournaments in gymnastics and badminton over the weekend. Spinello took fifth place on floor exercise with a 9.55 score and 10th on the parallel bars with an 8.95. He began the final round in ninth place on floor with a 9.3 and improved in the finals. On the parallel bars, he had a 9.1 in the preliminaries and was in 10th as well. A junior, Spinello qualified for State in two events last year but did not make the finals. Warrior Boys Repeat CSL Track Title

The Warrior boys’ team successfully defended its Central Suburban League title Friday at Maine West and Christine Stitcher qualified for the girls’ State Meet taking third in pole vault at the Palatine Sectional Friday.
