Israeli Basketball Legend Teaches Clinic at Berto Center

Tal Brody taught more than 100 children some cool new tricks when he stopped by Deerfield's Berto Center for a basketball clinic earlier this month. Former NBA state Kenny Battle was also there.

The Jewish National Fund hosted a basketball clinic with former University of Illinois and Israel basketball legend Tal Brody on Feb. 7 at the Berto Center in Deerfield. More than 100 children and parents braved the heavy snow and ice to come learn basketball moves from Brody and 1989 University of Illinois All American and former NBA star Kenny Battle. These basketball pros coached children ages 8 to16, and it was a great opportunity for members of the community to learn basketball basics straight from the experts. Participants also competed in shoot offs, and raffle winners received a variety of autographed prizes. Submitted by Jewish National Fund

Yes, it's sad to see them leave. It's fun to know what that anonymous building is. But, it's not like we'll be missing out on some festivals they put on or big amounts of revenue. Not some great corporate citizen, no biggie.   more ›

Bulls, Deerfield Tire Share Bond

Local business has been putting tires on Bulls’ cars for years. Owner is disappointed with the team’s departure.

One Deerfield business owner who is not happy about the Chicago Bulls decision to leave its Deerfield practice facility is Deerfield Tire Co.’s Garrett Garofolo. Garofolo has personally helped Michael Jordan and other Bulls get tires for their cars and he believes there will be less contact with people affiliated with the organization when the team leaves the Berto Center for a Chicago training spot not yet established. Earlier: Update: Poll Seeks Opinion on Bulls Departure “For me it’s not just the Bulls,” Garofolo said. “It’s the press people who come. People recognize Deerfield because of the Bulls. Lake Forest is for the Bears and Deerfield is for the Bulls.” Though Garofolo is disappointed, the impact on his overall business will not …
