Where is the best place in Deerfield to get help preparing your income tax return? Patch wants to know because the best place for tax preparation is the latest installment of our Readers’ Choice series. If you haven’t started yet, there is plenty of help around the Village. In fact, there are 36 companies in Patch’s business listings to help. All you have to do is go to the listing directory, take a look at the firms and their reviews. Then pick one. Since there are so many possibilities and people can be fiercely loyal to their accountants or tax preparers, Patch is departing from its usual method of selecting a winner with a poll and choosing the top enterprise based on who has the most comments and best reviews. You can participate …

Late entrant races ahead of the field.
Deerfield Community Nursery School was a late entrant into Patch’s Readers’ Choice series this week but dominated the field as the best place for children once it was added to the poll. The school got 36 of 68 votes cast to easily finish on top ahead of Moriah Child Care Center, Christian Beginnings, Deerfield Park District Preschool and Starland Creative Center. Diane Sandoval wrote to Patch Wednesday letting us know about Deerfield Community Nursery School and it was added to the poll. As soon as it was there, the votes started pouring in giving it a runaway win. According to Jennifer B, the strength of Deerfield Community Nursery School is in its teachers and number of students per instructor. “Best staff, low teacher-student ratio, …

Patch continues its Readers’ choice Series with the best place for children in town.
Since Patch began its Readers’ Choice series a month ago, we have learned what people in Deerfield like best about a number of things like Italian food and their favorite green beer for St. Patrick’s Day. This week, we are asking readers something more serious: Which preschool or child enrichment center do you think does the best job in Deerfield? We know parents prioritize different things when choosing a place to entrust their children, so we also want to know why you think your choice is the best. Do they have the most caring instructors? The greatest communication with parents? The most creative activities for toddlers? Let us know in the comments—and help your fellow parents out when it comes to choosing a preschool. Here are some …

Deerfield eatery noses out new Highland Park restaurant in Readers' Choice Contest.
The established Italian Kitchen in Deerfield nosed out the new Second Street Enoteca of Highland Park as the best Italian restaurant in the two communities in voting that went back and forth during the week. Voters gave Italian Kitchen 125 votes while Second Street Enoteca received 100. As the week progressed both eateries jumped ahead of the rest of the field of Bella Via, Biaggi’s, Ristorante Abruzzo and Rosebud as the lead went back and forth. Most of the readers weighing in with comments did not let Patch forget Highwood just to the north has a number of Italian restaurants which may be the subject of a future Patch story. “How can you rate Italian eateries on the North Shore and not include Highwood's ‘fresh from Emilio Romano and …

The day for green beer arrives in Deerfield and Highland Park Saturday giving Patch readers the opportunity to vote for their favorite St. Patrick’s Day spot this week. As part of the Best of Patch series, readers can pick between Trax Tavern in Deerfield, Norton’s in Highland Park and Bridie McKenna’s in Highwood as their favorite place to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day. At Trax, attention will be divided between St. Patrick’s Day and the second round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. “We’ll have the usual green beer and corned beef and cabbage,” manager Robbie Cohn said. “It (the corned beef and cabbage) sells out every year. We’ll also be focused on the NCAA Tournament.” Green beer will be flowing at Norton’s in Highland Park as well Saturday…

Books and reading were the big winner this week in Patch’s Best of Deerfield series. The votes are in and Patch readers voted the Deerfield Public Library the most family friendly place in town among the five nominees in this week’s Best of Deerfield Patch series. Of the 42 readers who cast ballots, 26 chose the library with Barnes & Noble finishing in the runner up spot with eight tallies. Starland Creative Center had four people pick it as the most family friendly with three choosing the Brunswick Zone and one selecting Deerfield Bank and Trust. Next week Patch will survey the best of St. Patrick’s Day in the Village so feel free to give us your suggestions before we formulate the survey.
