What's Open on New Year's Day in Deerfield

Several Deerfield businesses will be open, while others are taking the holiday off.

If you’re feeling good enough to get out on New Year’s Day, several stores and restaurants will be open to welcome you. However, others will be hibernating until the second day of 2013. Some restaurants will run their regular hours, while others will have modified hours for New Years Day. Here is a sampling of spots you can and cannot visit. If you're looking to get a bite to eat out, Trax Tavern, 833 Deerfield Road, will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight,  Biaggi's, 711 Deerfield Road, will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., and Boston Blackies, 405 Lake Cook Road, also will be open its regular hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. You can also head to Ristorante Abruzzo, 483 Lake Cook Road, today from 4 to 8 p.m., and Rosebud, 560 Waukegan …

My Deerfield Restaurant Wish List

I have so many restaurants on my Deerfield wish list-Italian really wasn't there.

Bobby’s Deerfield, a new American Bistro with an Italian influence restaurant is opening this fall in the former Townhouse/Red Star location. While I am excited the owners of Cafe Lucci in Glenview thought Deerfield was a good place to open a new restaurant, I am not overly enthused about their concept. Within a two minute walk, we will now have Italian Kitchen, Biaggi’s, Bobby’s, Rosebud, and Il Forno. Shall we just start calling Deerfield “Little Highwood” with all the Italian restaurants? There are so many other types of restaurants I would love to see in our town. Earlier: Bobby’s Deerfield Reveals Signage The first thing out of many friends mouths when I asked what type of restaurant they wished was in Deerfield, without hesitation, …

True there are a bunch of Italian restaurants in a couple of block radius but lets not forget that they are pretty much terrible. A good Italian restaurant would be welcome. Also, dont get me started on our Whole Food's. It is by far the worst Whole Foods i have ever been to. The prepared food is awful and the choices are very limited. They need to expand their "take and make" choices too. I find…   more ›

Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano Offers New Dining Treats

Patch reporter samples its quality cuisine and ambiance.

Two new Italian restaurants have opened on Waukegan Road near the center of town during the past couple of weeks. Both newcomers are making an impression on local diners. They join the well-regarded Italian Kitchen, a favorite with many over the years.  I haven’t tried Rosebud Restaurant yet. It’s located at the former Baker Square restaurant next to the Fire Station, but I’m looking forward to dining there soon.  However, wife Dorothy and I enjoyed a delightful lunch with our longtime friends Bill and Janie Seiden at Biaggi’s. It just opened this week in the former location of Stoney River in Deerfield Square.  We were greeted warmly upon arrival at the reception desk, and quickly were escorted to our reserved table. The interior walk-…

New Restaurant Plans Move into Stoney River Space

Biaggi’s could open by November; will begin hiring soon.

The former Stoney River restaurant apparently won’t stand vacant much longer: Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano plans to move in by November, bringing “fresh, authentic Italian food” and renewed activity to the corner of Deerfield and Waukegan Roads. “The demographics are great,” said Amy Goddard, Biaggi’s director of marketing. She said the restaurant chain has been looking to expand in the Chicagoland area, and that Deerfield offered a customer base similar to their current operations, including restaurants in Deer Park, Algonquin and Naperville. “Deerfield is a great community…and the opportunity was presented to us,” Goddard said. As a part of its expansion, the chain also plans to open a restaurant in Peoria in August, she said. The 7,500-…

While I agree that it is unlikely that the deerfield area can support yet another Italian joint, I disagree that it is some how Deerfield or the city planner's "fault." The job of the government on this issue is to make sure that the businesses that come to this area follow the applicable zoning laws and dont damage the community. If somebody has a dumb business idea or one that has a low chance …   more ›
