Smoked salmon pastrami has become a signature appetizer at upscale Deerfield bistro.
Smoked salmon, cream cheese and potato pancakes are traditional delicatessen fare but Bobby’s Deerfield has crafted the three ingredients into a popular appetizer at its upscale American bistro with an Italian influence. Earlier: Bobby’s Deerfield Plans Sumptuous Menu Bobby’s first turns the smoked salmon into a Pastrami before putting it over a layer of cream cheese which sits atop a potato pancake. If you’re feeling good enough to get out on New Year’s Day, several stores and restaurants will be open to welcome you. However, others will be hibernating until the second day of 2013. Some restaurants will run their regular hours, while others will have modified hours for New Years Day. Here is a sampling of spots you can and cannot visit. If you're looking to get a bite to eat out, Trax Tavern, 833 Deerfield Road, will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight, Biaggi's, 711 Deerfield Road, will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., and Boston Blackies, 405 Lake Cook Road, also will be open its regular hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. You can also head to Ristorante Abruzzo, 483 Lake Cook Road, today from 4 to 8 p.m., and Rosebud, 560 Waukegan …

A year and a half after Ron Miller’s death, his spirit keeps touching his students and colleagues. They came together at Bobby’s Deerfield Nov. 2.
Ron Miller founded Common Ground in Deerfield nearly 40 years ago and 18 months after his death he continues to touch people in and around Deerfield. Ten days ago his legacy brought a Deerfield writer, a Chicago vintner and Bobby’s Deerfield together. Common Ground is a center for “inquiry, study and dialogue,” according to its website, started by Miller and Jim Kenney in Deerfield in 1975 to study comparative religion. It has expanded to give offerings to deal with how spiritual, cultural and philosophical ideas impact human experience. One of the people Miller touched is Rosemary Hurwitz of Deerfield. Diners fill the tables and bar on new restaurant’s first night of business.
Bobby’s Deerfield opened Tuesday with a full restaurant, people at the bar and a few people waiting for tables at 7 p.m. Deerfield’s newest eatery started letting customers in at 4:30 p.m. Earlier: Bobby’s Deerfield Plans Sumptuous Menu “We’re happy to be here,” co-owner Bobby Arifi said. “The reception for us has been completely overwhelming. We’re going to have 150 people here and that’s a great opening night. We won’t be serving lunch until the 29th.” People were ordering hamburgers, steaks, seafood and pasta a well as having conversation and drinks at the bar. Owners of Village’s newest eatery set tentative date to serve first meal.
Final touches are being put on the Village’s newest restaurant as Bobby’s Deerfield tentatively plans to open Oct. 16 in downtown Deerfield, according to co-owner Bobby Arifi. He calls the eatery an American bistro with an Italian influence. Arifi is awaiting final approval from the Village with nearly all work complete and employees energetically training to greet customers when they arrive next week. Wine was arriving Monday to be inserted into a wood and glass cabinet the public can see in the dining room. Beauty shop will follow Bobby’s Deerfield as new tenant of downtown shopping center.
Seta Salon’s move to downtown Deerfield from the Deerbrook Mall was accelerated Monday when the Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a special use permit at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting. After a request from owners Chuck and Seta Babikian to give the permit two weeks earlier than normal, the Board granted the application after being satisfied parking requirements imposed on the property owner would come to pass. This week, we're spotlighting a trip to one of North Shore’s established restaurants which will be one of the area’s newest next month when Bobby and Augie Arifi, the owners of Glenview’s Café Lucci, open Bobby’s Deerfield.
