Protesters? Group Shows Up To Thank Schneider

Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) holds open house to welcome community to District office and a group of 35 organized people arrive. They came to thank him.

When a group organizes in the parking lot of the office of a member of Congress, they often do it as a prelude to protest. Though that is not what happened when 35 people from Organizing for Action arrived at Rep. Brad Schneider’s (D-Deerfield) open house Wednesday officially inaugurating his Lincolnshire District office, Chief of Staff Reed Adamson was uncertain about their purpose. Earlier: Schakowsky, Schneider Vote Differently on Funding “I didn’t know who they were,” Adamson said. “I saw them assembling in the lobby and went to see who they were.” He went to greet them and learned they were representatives of Organizing for Action, an advocacy group supporting President Barack Obama’s agenda. They were not there to protest. The group …

Dold Resurfaces on Facebook

Former Congressman restarts Facebook posts more than three months after loss to Brad Schneider.

What has former Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) been doing since the Nov. 6 election? If his Facebook page is any indication, he returned to a public life in a virtual sense March 15 when he updated his profile photo, asked a question about the country’s future, got 35 likes and 55 comments. His previous post was made Nov. 6. Earlier: Schneider Beats Dold in 10th District Race “What should we be doing to leave our children a better and more prosperous America?” Dold asked his social media followers. Two days later Dold was at it again posting a photo from a 2012 St. Patrick’s Day parade he called one of his favorites asking people how they celebrated the day. On March 20, Dold gave a shout out to Wheeling High School Principal Lazaro Lopez…

Schakowsky, Schneider Vote Differently on Funding

North Shore representatives both vote against latest Ryan budget but disagree on Continuing Resolution to fund government through September.

Local members of the Congress voted differently today as the House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution to fund the government through September but stood up together to oppose a Republican drafted budget. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) chose to reject the House Republican Budget authored by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) but took a different route on a Senate passed continuing resolution funding the federal government through September. Earlier: Schneider Joins Bipartisan Effort to Extend Debt Ceiling Schneider joined 114 other Democrats and 203 Republicans voting to avoid a government shutdown and fund the government through Sept. 30. Schneider Experiences Role Reversal

Congressman and constituents embrace the change at Aipac Policy Conference.

When more than 200 10th Congressional District citizens descended on Washington along with 13,000 others for the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) Policy Conference Sunday through Tuesday, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) found himself on the other side of the desk. A long time Aipac member and citizen lobbyist for the group, Schneider had plenty of experience explaining the importance of the United States-Israel relationship to members of Congress. This time it was his turn to listen. Earlier: Schneider Tapped for Foreign Affairs Committee “Having been on the lobbying side I know how important the relationship is,” Schneider said. “I was meeting with friends. It reinforced how much of an honor it is to represent …

Schakowsky, Schneider Urge Sequester Action

Schneider pleads for cooperation while Schakowsky warns of consequences of pending spending cuts.

With automatic spending cuts totaling $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years set to go into effect Friday, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) took to the floor of the House of Representatives Tuesday to urge action. Schakowsky warned of a reduction of military preparedness, less ability for small businesses to find loans, a reduction of food inspectors, less airport security because of layoffs at the Transportation Safety Administration and a drop in money for mental health services. “We’ve all been talking about the need for more mental health services around this whole issue of gun violence and it’s predicted about 373,000 adults and children who need mental health services won’t find them,” Schakowsky …

Manufacturers Tell Schneider About Hiring Needs

Deerfield Congressman learns from local businesses about their skill needs while on recess from Capitol Hill.

What does Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) do when he spends a week in his 10th Congressional District office in Lincolnshire rather than at the United States Capitol in Washington? Schneider spent much of his time during the current recess building local support for legislation he proposed two weeks ago, the America Works Act, to bring well paying jobs to the country and the northern suburbs. Earlier: Schneider Proposes Law To Help Job Growth Aimed at small and medium sized companies, the law proposed by Schneider and Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA) will help create a certification which schools and other training programs can issue to signify to a potential employer the credential holder is ready to step into a specific job.
