Joan Belon, nee Cowan age 81 of Deerfield passed way on March 1. She was the loving wife of Vernon, cherished mother of Cynthia (Barry Grayson) Belon and Felicia (Shlomo) Lev, adored grandmother of Michael Lemmon, Shoshana (Steve Carter) Belon, Marcus (fiancée Helee Hillman) Lev, Danya Lev and Maya Lev, and dear sister of Shirley (Larry) Krutt. William Spellberg, 82, of Deerfield died today. He was the beloved husband of the late Susanne and the devoted father of Dr. David (Elisabeth Caplan), Philip (Dianne Leland), and Alan (Audra Kaplan). He was also the loving grandfather of Sean, Jordyn, Leah, Claire, Jack, Joseph, Helen and Nathan. Spellberg was also the dear brother of Richard (Carole) and Norman and the cherished brother-in-law of Judith and Jerold Fink. William “Bill” Newman, 61 of Deerfield died Friday in hospice care after a brief illness. Newman leaves behind family and friends including his wife, Ann, sons Matthew and Michael and his mother Polly. His father was the late Charles Newman. He is also survived by his brothers Allan (Diane) and David (Naomi), and in-laws Violet, Dan, Mark, Mary Jo, Jean, Tom, Chris, Tony, Joy, Kathy and Jim as well as many nephews and nieces. Newman worked for many years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor helping the disabled. He was an avid tennis player and golfer. Stanley M. Ackerman, 78, of Lake Forest died Friday. He was 78. He was a beloved music educator, conductor, violinist, viola player, chamber music coach and public school orchestra director for over 40 years. He was the beloved husband for 53 years of Charlene (nee Berger) and the loving father of Bruce and Michael Ackerman and the late Shari Leah Ackerman as well as the proud grandfather of Annie Drew and Blake Ackerman. He was also the caring father-in-law of Jennifer Goldmann, the dear brother-in-law of Rosalyn (Morton) Munk and the cherished uncle of Dr. Stephen (Barbara) Munk. George H. Keats, 77, of Deerfield died Monday. An accomplished musician, Keats was part of the business world as a 20-year employee of Barnant, a division of Cole Palmer. Mae Schwartzenberg, 100, an eight year citizen of Deerfield and a lifelong resident of the Chicago area, died Sunday. Though Schwartzenberg worked at several jobs during her life, her primary focus was home and family. “The most important thing was her family,” her son Al Schwartzenberg of Glenview said. “She was always there to take care of us. That was the most important thing in her life.” Born in Chicago in 1912, Schwartzenberg lived in different neighborhoods of Chicago until moving to Glenview and eventually Deerfield, eight years ago. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred for over 39 years.
