CLC Memorial Day Ceremony Friday

An outdoor Memorial Day ceremony featuring staff from Naval Station Great Lakes will be held at Grayslake's College of Lake County at noon Friday.

The sixth annual College of Lake County Memorial Day ceremony will begin at noon on Friday, May 24. The ceremony is being sponsored by the CLC Veterans Memorial Task Force Committee and will be held outdoors at the CLC Willow Lake Veterans Memorial on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Staff from Naval Station Great Lakes will support the event with a chaplain, color guard, echo buglers, the 13 folds of the flag ceremony, along with the U.S. Marine Corps drill team. The ceremony will also include speakers, bagpipers and the singing of the national anthem by Kamila Lada, a senior at Round Lake High School. Individuals who have made donations to the CLC Foundation for tribute bricks to support construction of the memorial are …

Lake County's Largest Job Fair Thursday

Looking for work? More than 70 employers will be represented at the College of Lake County's job fair on Thursday.

Job seekers are invited to attend the JobMarketPlace Job Fair on Thursday, May 23, sponsored by the College of Lake County Career and Placement Services office. The fair will be held from 1-5 p.m. in the P.E. Center, Building 7, 19351 W. Washington St., in Grayslake. This is Lake County’s largest job fair, where participants can explore full-time, part-time, seasonal and professional job opportunities with more than 70 employers. In 2012, about 50 employers attended the annual job fair, according to Sylvia Johnson Jones, executive director of the CLC Career and Placement Services office. Notable Lake Forest Resident to be CLC Commencement Speaker

Reboot Parnters, Inc. Chairman Dean DeBiase will be the College of Lake County's commencement speaker.

Lake Forest resident Dean DeBiase, a former College of Lake County student who gained distinction as a Silicon Valley and Chicago business leader, will be the keynote speaker at the college’s commencement ceremony on Saturday. DeBiase, who transferred from CLC a few credits short of earning a degree, will also receive an honorary associate degree and the Illinois Outstanding Citizen Award. A co-author with Seth Godin of the best-selling business book The Big Moo: Stop Trying to Be Perfect and Start Being Remarkable, DeBiase’s keynote address, "Semper Paratus," will touch on the entrepreneurial movement and content from a new book he is developing. CLC Plant Sale Begins Thursday

Find everything from annuals to vegetables at the College of Lake County Horticulture Department's annual plant sale.

The Horticulture Department at the College of Lake County will hold its annual plant sale from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the horticulture greenhouses (Building H near the Brae Loch Road entrance to the Grayslake campus at 19351 W. Washington St.). Proceeds from the plant sale help support CLC student scholarships and enhancements to the career programs. Many of the plants have been raised from seed by CLC students and staff. Customers can choose from annuals (ranging from alyssum to zinnias in six-packs and four-inch containers); hanging basket combos (such as begonias, impatiens and petunias); vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes or squash (three packs and four-inch pots); and herbs such as basil, …

CLC Announces New Board

College of Lake County seats new trustees and elects board positions.

The College of Lake County seated its newly elected trustees this week—incumbent Barbara D. Oilschlager, of Grayslake, who has served since 1989, and Dr. Philip Carrigan, of Waukegan, who previously served on the board from 2005 to 2011. Both were elected April 9 to a 6-year term. Carrigan replaces John W. Lumber, who served since April 2007. The board also conducted its annual reorganization, selecting Amanda Howland, of Lake Zurich, to serve as chairman; Jeanne T. Goshgarian, of Round Lake, to serve as vice chairman; and Philip Carrigan to serve as secretary. "I am looking forward to working with everyone," said Howland. CLC Presents 'Fear No Art' this Weekend

The College of Lake County in Grayslake presents a visual showcase of art, dance and music at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts through Sunday.

For 15 years, the College of Lake County’s "Fear No Art" production has showcased a variety of arts, including dance, music and visual art, by CLC students and faculty and community members. This year, the event will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, 19351 W. Washington St., in Grayslake. More than 50 students are involved in the production, which is directed by Valerie Alpert of the CLC dance faculty. Fear No Art will feature the creativity of CLC’s vibrant performing arts community. Lake County Jail Inmates Earn GEDs

Through the College of Lake County, Lake County Jail inmates earn their GED.

Six Lake County Jail inmates participated in a graduation ceremony March 20 to celebrate successfully completing the GED program through the College of Lake County. There are Diego Flores, Martice Wallace, Margarito Lopez, Montrell Randle, DeAundre Maynard and David Rodriguez. The graduates worked on course work at their own pace. Once they were ready, they took five exams required by the State of Illinois. Instructors from the College of Lake County’s Adult Education Department, along with volunteer tutors, taught the inmates during two-hour sessions Monday through Wednesday.  Attending the March 20 graduation ceremony were Sheriff Mark C.
