1 in 8 Illinois Residents Have Unclaimed Property

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is encouraging residents to search the Unclaimed Property Division’s database several times a year.

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is encouraging residents to search the Unclaimed Property Division’s database several times a year. UPD currently has $1.7 billion in cash, plus contents from Illinois safe deposit boxes that have been abandoned for at least five years. “It’s common for people to check one month and find no properties in their names, only to return the next month and find cash or other property on the list,” Rutherford said in a statement. ”My office took in 198,796 new properties just in the first quarter of 2013. Polish Hero of Holocaust Remembered

Officials unveil exhibit about Jan Karski, who was the first to tell the U.S. and free world about the horrors of what the Nazis were doing to Jews and others in concentration camps in German-occupied Poland in the 1940s.

  Officials gathered Monday to kick off an exhibit on the legacy of Jan Karski, who during World War II alerted the United States and the Western Allies that the Nazis were perpetrating the Holocaust in German-occupied Poland. State Treasurer Dan Rutherford and Polish Consul Paulina Kapuscinska led the ceremony, which was organized by the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Chicago. The exhibit, which explores the legacy of Karski, whom some call a "real-life James Bond," is on loan from the Polish History Museum in Poland.  The exhibit may be viewed through April 23 at the Daley Center, 50 W. Gold coins, emerald jewelry, and a four leaf clover paperweight are just some of the items that Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is offering in the next Illinois Treasurer’s Online Unclaimed Property Auction. It starts at 10 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 18 and will begin closing at 10 a.m. on Friday, Mar. 22. Unclaimed Property Event to be Held at Lake County Building Wednesday

A reported 319,063 owners in Lake County have $87,270,495 in unclaimed property, according to the January list of unclaimed property holders. Official Vice Presidential Debate Viewing Event at Grayslake's Last Chance Saloon Thursday

Lake County Young Republicans will host the only official viewing event in the state for the vice-presidential debate at Last Chance Saloon in Grayslake Thursday, Oct. 11.

Pre-event ticket registration is required to join the Lake County Young Republicans vice presidential debate viewing event at Last Chance Saloon in Grayslake from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. The free event will include food, games, Republican candidates and elected officials such as Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford. The Illinois Treasurer’s Office watched the markets closely today, and will continue to watch the markets closely again tomorrow for fluctuations based on actions in other countries. We believe what happened on Wall Street today began with a slight general uncertainty because of the debt ceiling debate, and was aggravated by concerns of economic and structural weakness in Europe. That, in turn, led to increased purchases in U.S. treasuries and the lowered yields which we anticipated. My senior investment team and I continue to have twice-daily briefings on the markets and their impact on the Illinois treasury. To this point, our normal course of action has been appropriate.
