Deerfield based Beam, Inc., reported a strong third quarter showing a profit as opposed to a loss during the same period last year as well as sales growth, according to a report on 4-Traders. Beam reported earnings of $0.57 per share for the quarter just ended against a loss for the same period in 2011 of $0.53 a year ago, according to 4-Traders. Sales grew at an 8 percent rate during the period and earnings are up 21 percent for the year. Deerfield based companies help train science teachers; create jobs for people with disabilities

A program created in Connecticut by Deerfield based Walgreens just under a year ago to increase job opportunities for people with disabilities through special training has already placed 17 of the 62 people who have completed the course with employment in the company, according to a story on Daily Finance. The goal of the program is to provide people with training for jobs in Walgreens stories or other retailers requiring similar skills, according to the story. The company works closely with social service and vocational rehabilitation agencies to administer the course. Baxter issues earnings report, Walgreens hires new executive and Beam takes a look at a foreign operation.
Deerfield based Baxter Healthcare Corporation reported increased quarterly earnings this week but not as much as originally projected, according to an article in the Chicago Tribune. Profits for the year are expected to follow the same pattern. Net income jumped to $583 million, or $1.06 per share, from $576 million, or $1.01 per share, a year earlier, according to the Tribune. Analysts had anticipated earnings of $1.14 per share on revenue of $3.52 billion. Deerfield based businesses finished a busy week as Takeda Pharmaceuticals acquitted LigoCyte Pharmaceuticals, Inc, and Beam, Inc., declared a dividend for its shareholders, according to business news sources. Takeda, located on Takeda Parkway in Deerfield, will pay $60 million cash for LigoCyte plus potential future considerations based on the company’s performance, according to prnewswire. LigoCyte, based in Bozeman, MT, manufactures vaccines.
