As a researcher who works with statistics all the time, I'm rather shocked by the reporter's comment that "one thing which does not lie are numbers." (I'm not even referring to the awkward grammar.) There is a famous quote attributed to Mark Twain: "there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
