Deerfield High School basketball team falls to Zee-Bees in Regional semifinal.
A fourth quarter rally fell short as the Deerfield High School basketball team dropped its Regional semifinal game to Zion-Benton, 61-48, Wednesday in Deerfield ending its season. A pair of three-point shots by freshman Jordan Baum got the Warriors within six points of the lead with just over three minutes left in the contest before the Zee-Bees pulled away for good. Strong defense keys Deerfield High School victory.
A chocking defense made the difference as Deerfield High School’s basketball team dominated McHenry, 61-29, in the opening Regional contest of the Illinois High School Association State Tournament today at Deerfield. Playing without center Michael Alfieri who was ill, the Warriors held McHenry to four points in the second quarter, six in the third and seven in the fourth stifling nearly every offensive effort put forth. Swimming Feb. 9 The Final Score: 1. Niles North 355, 2. Deerfield 249, 3. Glenbrook North 202, 4. Highland Park 169, 5. Maine West 163, 6. Maine East 119. Warriors’ Star Performers: Sean Scarry won the diving competition with 482.5 points setting a school record. Ryan Church took second in diving while Ryan Smith placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 100 butterfly. Smith also teamed with Daniel Perlovsky, Nate Block and Alec Barry to finish third in the 200 medley relay. Feb. 5 The Final Score: Lake Forest 53, Deerfield 49 Warriors Star Performer: Eric Porter scored 27 points including six for 11 from three-point range. Porter hit 69 percent of his shots from the field as well as two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Alfieri drained 13 points and hauled down 10 rebounds along with three assists and a steal. Deerfield High School swim team wins two of three relays to best District 113 rival. Boys’ and Girls’ basketball teams fall to Maine West.
Jan. 18 Swimming The Final Score: Deerfield 110, Highland Park 75 Warriors’ Star Performers: Alec Barry, Danny Booker, Joey Barr and Alex Howard joined forces to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.05). Barry, Booker and Howard then joined forces with Ryan Smith to take the 400 freestyle relay (3:25.67). Howard was also a winner in the 50 (23.5) and 100 freestyles (50.71). Barr added a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:54.93) and a second in the 500 freestyle (5:11.11) while Smith did the same with a win in the 100 butterfly (56.48) and runner up honors in the 100 backstroke (1:00.29).
