Warriors Advance to Sectional Soccer Final

Deerfield High School soccer team wins in overtime. Volleyball squad wins Regional opener.

A come from behind 4-3 overtime semifinal victory Tuesday over St. Viator propelled the Deerfield High School soccer team into its first ever Sectional championship game at 11 a.m. Saturday against Lake Forest in Lake Villa. The Warriors overcame a 3-1 second half deficit with just over 16 minutes left in the game to send it into overtime before Emily Kellow scored the game winner on an assist from Samara Haas five minutes into the extra period. Warriors Wear Regional Soccer Crown

Emily Kellow scored a pair of goals and keeper Sarah Ginn let nothing get by her as the Deerfield High School soccer team defeated Grayslake North, 2-0, tonight to win the Regional championship at Adams Field and advance to next week’s Sectional at Lakes. Kellow and Ginn made the difference in the score, but all the Warriors added to the win in a significant manner, according to Coach Rich Grady. Get local news in a daily email from Patch. Warriors Blank Regina in Soccer Regional

Top seeded Deerfield High School soccer team plays for regional title Friday.

A stifling defense and the right amount of offense made the difference as the top seeded Deerfield High School soccer team set a school record defeating Regina Dominican High School, 2-0, Tuesday at Adams Field. The Warrior defense prevented the Panthers from even getting a shot at goalies Sarah Ginn and Sam Soloway. The pair recorded a shutout without a save thanks to the defense. Earlier: Warriors Produce State Qualifiers, League Champs Samara Haas put Deerfield on the board 2:15 into the game when she got a pass from Margot Sylvan and shot the ball 35 yards into the net over the goal keeper’s head, according to Coach Rich Grady. Warrior Volleyball, Soccer Teams Fall

Glenbrook’s schools end Deerfield High School win streaks.

Warriors Make Winning Weekend Showings

Soccer team takes two of three, tennis squad places fourth at own invitational while boys’ tracksters finish fifth at county meet.

May 4  Soccer  The Final Score:        Deerfield 4, University High 0; Deerfield 3, Resurrection 0; Willows 1, Deerfield 0  Warriors Star Performers:   Samara Haas scored two goals and an assist. Trishie Schweinfurth tallied pair of goals while Haley Greer chipped in with two assists.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Amanda Imyak, Maddy Otto and Jesse Holloway added a goal each to the team’s performance while Rachel Magnus had an assist. Warriors Produce State Qualifiers, League Champs

Four badminton players head to State Meet, soccer team repeats CSL crown while baseball and volleyball teams keep winning.

With four Deerfield High School badminton players qualifying for the State Meet and the soccer team completing two undefeated years in Central Suburban League North Division play Thursday, the Warrior teams keep posting wins this spring.  May 2  Badminton  The Final Score:        1. New Trier 15, 2. Deerfield 13, 3. Maine South 9, Evanston 6, Waukegan 3, Glenbrook 2.  Warriors Star Performers:   Katie Frankel and Ally Kolpas won the Sectional doubles title to qualify for the State Finals.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Cara Silverman and Marissa Levy will head to State in singles as each reached the semifinals before falling. Warriors Have a Field Day With Highland Park

Tennis and volleyball teams win while soccer squad ties Giants. Baseball team tops Maine East.

Winning is always a good thing in sports and when it comes against an arch rival it is even better.  Deerfield High School’s tennis team blanked the Giants, 7-0, the volleyballers won in three sets as both squads continued their winning ways as the soccer team finished in a 1-1 tie with the Giants to keep their league title hopes alive.  April 30  Tennis  The Final Score:        Deerfield 7, Highland Park 0  Warriors Star Performers:   The entire team—Toby Ma, Jack Kasbeer, Tim Klabjan, Harrison Crist, Noah Rosenblat, George Vanderkloot, Andrew Pekin, Sam Sylvan, Lee Ratner, Chris Casati and Jared Gupta—as all athletes won their matches.  Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Glenbrook North at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.  The Bottom Line:      …

Weather Rules Warrior Spring Outdoor Sports

Rain and cold have caused more cancellations than games played for baseball and softball teams.

What difference a year makes. A year ago the Deerfield High School baseball team was playing in 80-degree weather during spring break at Adams Field while the softball team was doing the same in Florida. The baseball team has an 8-5-14 record with the 14 being the number of games cancelled or postponed because of rain or cold, according to the school website. Warrior baseball Coach Kevin Marsh, who has been leading teams in the area for 21 years, remembers few seasons like 2013 but minimizes the effect on the team. Four Warrior Teams Play, Four Win

Soccer, volleyball, badminton and boys’ lacrosse squads all post victories, three of them shutouts.

April 23  Soccer  The Final Score:        Deerfield 2, Niles North 0  Warriors Star Performers:   Bailey Bradford had eight saves in her sixth shutout of the season while Claire Mulert and JoElla Guagliardo scored a goal each.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Emily Kellow and Logan Just chipped in with assists.  Who’s Next:   The Warriors entertain Maine East at 8 p.m. Thursday.  The Bottom Line:      Deerfield wasted little time getting on the board scoring in the 15th minute as Kellow found Mulert free for a 30-yard shot which sailed over the goalie and into the net. Tennis, boys’ lacrosse, soccer, gymnastics badminton, volleyball and gymnastics teams all show achievements.

April 20  Tennis  The Final Score:        1. Hinsdale Central 37, 2. New Trier 23.5, 3. Deerfield 17, 4. Barrington 14, 5. Lyons 13.5, 6. Neuqua Valley 11.5, 7. Oak Park 9.5, 8. Highland Park 7.  Warriors Star Performers:              Toby Ma finished third in No. 1 singles with Jack Kasbeer fourth. Ma defeated Kasbeer in the third-place match.
