Update: Warriors Hold Fifth at State Tennis Tourney

Volleyball team wins Regional while boys’ lacrosse squad takes playoff opener.

Update at 8:30 p.m.) Deerfield High School’s tennis team vaulted into fifth place in the State Tennis Tournament today in its quest for one of three trophies awarded at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. The Warriors finished the day with 17 team points in fifth place trailing Hinsdale Central (24), Lake Forest (22), New Trier (22) and Stevenson (21) winning nine of 12 matches played by two entrants in singles and two more in doubles. Toby Ma and Jack Kasbeer led the way playing singles winning all three of their matches to advance to Friday’s fourth round. Should they win they move into Friday’s quarterfinal matches. The doubles team of Noah Rosenblatt and Harrison Crist won their first two encounters before falling in the third …

Warriors Win Sectional Tennis Title

All Deerfield High School participants advance to State Meet.

After three years of playing second fiddle to teammate Jason Brown’s first violin, Deerfield High School tennis star Toby Ma moved into the first chair today when he won the Highland Park Sectional championship. Ma defeated fellow Warrior Jack Kasbeer, 6-2, 6-4, to take the singles title after three years of finishing second in the meet to Brown, the 2012 state champion. Ma and Kasbeer both advance to the State Meet Thursday through Saturday at Hersey High School. Maine East 4, Niles North 2, Maine West 1.  Warriors Star Performers:  The entire team of Jack Kasbeer, Noah Rosenblat, Tim Klabjan, Toby Ma, Andrew Pekin, Tony Crist, George Vanderkloot, Sam Sylvan, Lee Rather, Chris Casati and Zach Keeshin. Warriors Make Winning Weekend Showings

Soccer team takes two of three, tennis squad places fourth at own invitational while boys’ tracksters finish fifth at county meet.

May 4  Soccer  The Final Score:        Deerfield 4, University High 0; Deerfield 3, Resurrection 0; Willows 1, Deerfield 0  Warriors Star Performers:   Samara Haas scored two goals and an assist. Trishie Schweinfurth tallied pair of goals while Haley Greer chipped in with two assists.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Amanda Imyak, Maddy Otto and Jesse Holloway added a goal each to the team’s performance while Rachel Magnus had an assist. Warriors Have a Field Day With Highland Park

Tennis and volleyball teams win while soccer squad ties Giants. Baseball team tops Maine East.

Winning is always a good thing in sports and when it comes against an arch rival it is even better.  Deerfield High School’s tennis team blanked the Giants, 7-0, the volleyballers won in three sets as both squads continued their winning ways as the soccer team finished in a 1-1 tie with the Giants to keep their league title hopes alive.  April 30  Tennis  The Final Score:        Deerfield 7, Highland Park 0  Warriors Star Performers:   The entire team—Toby Ma, Jack Kasbeer, Tim Klabjan, Harrison Crist, Noah Rosenblat, George Vanderkloot, Andrew Pekin, Sam Sylvan, Lee Ratner, Chris Casati and Jared Gupta—as all athletes won their matches.  Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Glenbrook North at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.  The Bottom Line:      …

Warrior Soccer Team Ties Spartans

Tennis team falls to New Trier.

April 16  Soccer  The Final Score:        Deerfield 0, Glenbrook North 0  Warriors Star Performers:   Bailey Bradford had six saves for another shutout.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       A defensive effort by Jesse Holloway, Claire Mulert, Haley Greer, Maddy Otto, Amanda Imyak, Samara Haas, Jordyn Winston, Logan Just and JoElla Guagliardo all contributed to the effort, according to Coach Rich Grady.  Who’s Next:   The Warriors travel to Warren at 6 p.m. Thursday.  The Bottom Line:      Deerfield generated more scoring chances as the game went on. Sports Digest: Warrior Volleyball Team Takes Second at County

Tennis team wins quad, soccer team tops St. Ignatius and badminton players earn fourth of 16 at New Trier.

April 13  Volleyball  The Final Score:        Deerfield took second in the Lake County Meet. The Warriors defeated Lake Forest, 25-18, 25-21; Libertyville, 25-16, 25-18; Warren 16-25, 26-24; 25-18 and Barrington 25-23, 28-16 before losing to Stevenson, 25-19, 25-10.  Warriors Star Performers:   Jordan Fine dished out 101 assists as well as contributing 26 digs, seven kills, three aces and two blocks. Zach Hara logged 35 kills, 23 digs, a pair of aces and 1.5 blocks while John Harlan contributed 34 kills, 10 digs, five blocks and four aces.  Other Notable Warrior Performances:       Kenison Ready had 19 kills, nine digs and a pair of blocks while Eli Schmidt chipped in 15 kills, 14 digs, a pair of aces and two blocks. Jordan Fine dished out 24 assists, had eight digs and served an ace while John Harlan contributed seven digs, five kills and an ace.
