Vehicle Collision Leads to Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Driver’s License Infractions  Merbil Mancilla, 39, of Wheeling was arrested May 6 for driving without a valid license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving an uninsured motor vehicle, according to Deerfield Police reports.  Mancilla was involved in a collision in the vicinity of Deerfield Road and Jonquil Terrace, according to the report. While investigating the crash, police learned she did not have a license. She was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 1:30 p.m. June 4 in Park City.  Criminal Damage to Property  Profanity was scratched into a car parked outside a residence in the 1100 block of Elmwood on May 11, according to Deerfield police reports. Police Arrest Driver of Counterfeit Suspect for License Violation

Driver’s License Infractions and more  Lawrencio Hill, 20, of Milwaukee was arrested May 4 for driving on a suspended license and driving with a suspended registration, according to Deerfield Police reports.  Hill was stopped by police as he was about to enter Interstate 94 at Waukegan Road because the passenger in his car was identified as a suspect who was trying to purchase merchandise with a counterfeit bill, according to the report. After the stop, police learned Hill’s license was suspended. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3 p.m. June 4 in Park City.  Lara Martinez, 40, of Palatine was arrested May 10 for driving with a suspended license, according to Deerfield Police reports. Woman Arrested for Passing Counterfeit Bill

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Cashay Lee-Hill, 17, of Milwaukee was arrested May 4 for felony forgery for trying to buy $8.68 worth of merchandise at Bed Bath and Beyond with a counterfeit $100 bill, according to Deerfield Police reports.  After an employee at Bed, Bath and Beyond suspected the money was counterfeit and informed Deerfield Police, Lee-Hill was stopped by police as she and a companion, the driver of the car in which she was riding, tried to enter Interstate 94 at Waukegan Road, according to the report.  While investigating the vehicle, police located a “thick white piece of paper stuffed into an open sunroof area between (the) roof of the car and the headliner. Police Target Construction Zone Cell Phone Use

Deerfield Police are making an extra effort to reduce cell phone use in Lake Cook Road construction area.

A concerted effort by the Deerfield Police Department to reduce hand held cellular telephone use in the Lake Cook Road construction zone has resulted in an approximate doubling of tickets written. Before the road work began April 15, police were issuing approximately 33 tickets a week to people talking on a hand held cellular device while driving, according to Deerfield Police Chief John Sliozis. Since the work started, the average has climbed to 68. Earlier: Lake Cook Road Configuration Changes “We have told our officers to focus on the use of (hand held) cell phones in the (Lake Cook Road) construction area,” Sliozis. Car Damage Leads to DUI, Drug Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI, Drugs and more  Samuel Kim, 24, of Wheeling was arrested May 1 for DUI drugs, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with one headlight, according to Deerfield Police reports.  Police spotted Kim driving in the vicinity of Lake Cook Road and Corporate Drive with only one headlight illuminated and “extensive front end damage which appeared to be fresh,” according to the report. After stopping him, police observed his “reactions seemed low” and the “heavy masking odor of air freshener was coming from the vehicle.”  After further investigation, police learned Kim had three arrests for charges including drugs, liquor and theft, according to the report. Police Arrest Woman for Theft

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Theft  Renee Redmond, 54, of Evanston was arrested April 26 for theft, according to Deerfield Police reports. Police were called to Whole Foods by security personnel after observing Redmond walk out of the store with four items in her purse. She “admitted (to police) to stealing from whole foods.” She was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 3:30 p.m. June 4.  Vandalism  “Indiscernible graffiti” was sprayed on a half wall inside the skate bowl at Jewett Park May 1, according to Deerfield Police reports. Person Offering Deerfield Teen Ride Was Not a Stranger

Deerfield children learn how to react when they encounter an unfamiliar person.

Poor weather conditions may have led a Deerfield teenager to refuse a ride home from school Thursday from a person who knew the student, according to a statement from Deerfield Police Chief John Sliozis. After investigating the incident, Deerfield police concluded the person offering the ride was an acquaintance of the teenager, according to Sliozis. “The child … failed to recognize the person because of weather and lighting conditions,” he said. Speeding Driver Arrested for Drug Possession

Possession of Cannabis  Hector Uriastegui, 24, of Wheeling was arrested April 23 for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, according to Deerfield Police reports.  Police clocked Uriastegui driving 49 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone in the vicinity of Lake Cook and Deerlake Roads, according to the report. After the stop, police smelled the odor of burnt cannabis on Uriastegui’s breath. Bottles with a leafy substance along with a glass pipe were found. Grand Jury Indicts Armed Robbery Suspects

Three men who tried to hold up a Deerfield store are charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.

Three men who were arrested for the armed robbery of a Deerfield cellular telephone store April 8 after a chase by Deerfield Police learned today they were indicted by a Cook County Grand Jury for both armed robbery and kidnapping. Lavell Hughes, 41, of Hazel Crest, Tony Johnson, 20, of Harvey and Andrew Wadlington-Anthony, 28, of Harvey appeared before Judge Marguerite Quinn in Cook County Criminal Court in Skokie for a preliminary hearing when they learned the news.
