Project was delayed because of weather.
Deerfield Road is scheduled to reopen between Milwaukee Avenue and Saunders Road late today, according to an update on the Lake County Department of Transportation website. A detour taking traffic south to Lake Cook Road began April 15, was scheduled to end April 19 but was delayed a week because of flooding and extreme weather conditions, according to the website. The road was closed for culvert work east of Juneberry Road. If anyone sees the detour still in effect Saturday, please let us know in the comments and we will look into it. Lake Cook, Deerfield and Half Day Roads will have work going on over the next few weeks.
Three of the area’s major east-west thoroughfares—Lake Cook, Deerfield and Half Day Roads—will be undergoing construction over the next few weeks and more. Work begins today over the next few weeks on Half Day Road, according to an email from Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods Executive Director Victoria Street. Faulty portions of the pavement will be removed and replaced. Scheduled to start in April, the $9-million construction project on Lake Cook and Waukegan roads on the border of Deerfield and Northbrook will add two extra lanes on Lake Cook Road, two left turn lanes on Waukegan Road, 40,000 square-feet of extra sidewalk, utility and roadway improvements, but also headaches for businesses near the two roads, reported the Chicago Tribune. Crossing will be closed for a week for replacement
The railroad crossing on Osterman Avenue just south of Deerfield Road will be closed for replacement from Wednesday through Oct. 30, according to an email from Victoria Street at the Deerfield-Bannockburn-Riverwoods Chamber of Commerce. The entire crossing will be replaced and barred to traffic for the week. Though one alternative is the Deerfield Road underpass, that viaduct has a height clearance of 11 feet, 9 inches. Concrete work Thursday and Friday will force lanes to be closed but the road will remain open.
Portions of Deerfield Road in the vicinity of Waukegan Road will be limited to one lane in each direction during part of the day Thursday and Friday to finish the project by North Shore Gas to repair valves, according to Village Project Engineer John Guccione. The pavement restoration will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. both days. “The road will not be closed completely, but will have lane closures,” Guccione said. Concrete will be poured Thursday, according to Guccione. The effort should last approximately three hours. Board approves study to enable Deerfield to get bids on Deerfield Road overhaul.
The Village Board of Trustees took a first step toward a major construction project on Deerfield Road at Tuesday’s meeting when it approved a study to determine the extent of the work which should take place between Wilmot Road and Highway 41 in Highland Park. Village Manager Kent Street emphasized the work will not begin until the current project on Half Day Road is done and the construction scheduled next year on Lake Cook Road is complete. Pedestrian bridge will be painted from 9 p.m. Monday through 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Deerfield Road will be closed at the pedestrian bridge by the Metra station from 9 p.m. Monday until 4:30 a.m. Tuesday for painting, according to Deerfield Chief Project Engineer John Guccione. The underpass will be painted during that time. Alternative routes across the railroad tracks are Osterman Avenue a block to the south and Hazel Avenue a few blocks to the north. Construction on Deerfield Road between Rosemary Terrace and the Highland Park village limit was finished on time Thursday, according to Deerfield Chief Project Engineer John Guccione. Though a sign remained in Highland Park warning of construction delays just before entering the Village from the east on Deerfield Road, no workers were present at 11:30 a.m. today as all four lanes moved smoothly in each direction. Work should be done by Friday.
A short-term construction project with the potential to cause delays on Deerfield Road between Rosemary Terrace and the Highland Park line starts at 7 a.m. today, according to Deerfield Chief Project Engineer John Guccione. Guccione does not expect the effort to last longer than the end of the week but traffic on much of Deerfield Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction until the work’s duration. Rosemary is one block east of Waukegan Road. “At one time, two lanes of traffic on one side of the street will be closed while we do the work,” Guccione said. “Then we’ll do the other side.
