Voters Overturn Caucus Endorsement

Town meeting backs Farkas, Oppenheim and Struthers for Village Board slate. Rosenthal, unopposed, gets nod for mayor.

Voters at Deerfield’s 29th biennial Town Meeting voted to back two of the Deerfield Village Caucus’s choices for the Board of Trustees in the April 9 election and overturn a third selection Tuesday at Caruso Middle School. Mayor Harriet Rosenthal was the only mayoral hopeful to submit to the caucus process. She got the necessary votes to earn the support of the Caucus. That choice was ratified by the voters Tuesday. Village and Township Caucuses Meet Today

Candidate slates for Village Board and township officials will be chosen.

Deerfield voters will have their say at 7 p.m. today at Caruso Middle School about who will be endorsed on the Village Caucus slate on the April 9 ballot for Deerfield’s mayor and the Village Board of Trustees. Caucuses will be held today as well for West Deerfield Township officials. The Village municipal elections are non partisan while the Township contests will offer both Republican and Democratic slates. Local voters have opportunity to ratify slates of elected officials in Village, West Deerfield Township.

Deerfield voters who want a say about who will appear on the April 9 ballot for the Village Board of Trustees as well as West Deerfield Township officials get that opportunity Tuesday at caucuses. The Village municipal elections are non partisan while the Township contests will offer both Republican and Democratic slates. Caucus Endorses Slate for Mayor, Board

All Deerfield voters will have the opportunity to ratify or change the slate at Dec. 4 Town Hall Meeting.

Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and two incumbent Village Board of Trustees members were endorsed for reelection today by the Deerfield Village Caucus as part of the official slate in the April 9 municipal elections. Rosenthal, who was the only mayoral candidate to seek Caucus backing, got the nod along with Trustees Alan Farkas and Barbara Struthers. Rob Nadler was endorsed over incumbent Mary Oppenheim and Jim Moyer. Oppenheim has told Patch last month she will run for reelection. Get local news in a daily email from Patch.
