Village Begins Work on Downtown Plaza

Facelift starts on corner of Waukegan and Deerfield Roads.

Initial work to develop the public plaza at the northeast corner of Deerfield and Waukegan Roads began Tuesday, the day after the Village’s lease of the property with US Bank became effective. Earlier: Village to Improve Downtown Plaza The Village Board of Trustees approved the project at its Jan. 7 meeting and signed the lease soon thereafter. Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and the Trustees expressed hope at the time the land would become a meeting place and beautify downtown. Landscape equipment and Village workers were there in force Thursday to start the landscaping efforts. This is the beginning, according to Village Manager Kent Street. “We’re doing modest spring landscaping to bring it up to a more acceptable level,” Street said. What else…

Your words "dangerous for a long time". Why did the village allow the corner to become dangerous and not remedy the situation years sooner? Why is there a double standard of enforcement of appearance and sign ordinances?   more ›

Village To Improve Downtown Plaza

Northeast corner of Deerfield and Waukegan Roads is set for upgrade. Greater recycling requirements imposed on building remodelers.

The public plaza at the northeast corner of Waukegan and Deerfield Roads will get a beautification boost from the Village this spring. The path to the improvements came after the Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a lease for the land with US Bank at its Jan. 7 meeting. Deerfield will take control of the property April 1. Earlier: Lake Cook Road Corridor Plan Moves Forward “We’re going to improve the property for use as a public plaza,” Village Administrative Assistant Andrew Lichterman told the Trustees and Mayor Harriet Rosenthal Jan. 7. Agreed RB. This is the same bank which has been permitted in the past to get away with placing a handwritten loan rate posters on the sidewalk, daily, for months on end in the past. Obviously, haranguing Rosebud and Carsons is one standard, but U.S. Bank and the owner of the Woodfire property are something else.
