Where Were Deerfield's Burglaries and Other Recent Crimes?

See where the recent rash of burglaries and other crimes were committed in Deerfield in the past month.

January and the first day of February saw a rash of burglaries in Deerfield as well as other crimes prompting Village Police Chief John Sliozis to offer suggestions to citizens to help reduce the number.  “Five may not seem like a lot in some places but it’s five times as many as last year,” Sliozis said referring to the burglaries. “We ask for the community to help by keeping their eyes open in their neighborhoods. Police Blotter: Cook County Sheriff’s Officer Assists DUI Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI  Gheorge Plesca, 27, of Des Plaines was arrested Jan. 27 for driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without insurance, according to Deerfield Police reports.  An officer from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police had been following Plesca northbound on Waukegan Road observing him cross the center line, according to the report. When the two cars reached Deerfield Road, the Cook County officer signaled Deerfield Police.  Deerfield Police then stopped Plesca and noticed a strong odor of alcohol from his breath, according to the report. Plesca failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of .176. He was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. Feb. 17 in Waukegan.  Criminal Damage to Property  A …

Bannockburn Police Blotter: Police Arrest Lake Forest Woman for DUI

The following arrest information was supplied by the Bannockburn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Kathy Walsh, 46, of Lake Forest was arrested Saturday for driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage, according to Bannockburn Police Reports.  Police observed Walsh driving east on Half Day Road from just west of the intersection of Waukegan Road to nearly the intersection of Highway 41 in Highland Park, according to the report. During that time, Walsh both drifted within her lane and between lanes while varying speeds and almost hitting curbs.  After stopping Walsh near Highway 41, police noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from both the car and her breath. She failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test. She was released on bond and will appear in Lake County Court at 9 a.m. Feb. 13 in Waukegan.

Judge Will Not Let Mark Ditka Drive

Facing second DUI charges in a year, Lake County judge will not lift suspension of Mark Ditka’s driver’s license.

A Lake County Court judge kept the suspension of Deerfield’s Mark Ditka in place Tuesday denying a motion to lift the mandatory prohibition of driving prevliedges which follow some DUI arrests, according to a story in the Lake County News Sun. Ditka is currently facing two DUI cases, according to Patch reports. Both were made by Deerfield police. He was first charged in 2011 and arrested again in October while the first case was still pending in court. When a person is arrested a second time, a license is suspended for 36 months, prosecutor Ben Dillon explained in the News Sun story. Ditka is the on of former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka. Glenview Police Arrest Deerfield Man for DUI

Joseph Kenney, Glenview's director of capital projects and inspection services, was arrested Wednesday.

A Deerfield man and Glenview municipal official was was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage after being pulled over early Wednesday morning by Glenview Police, according to the Chicago Tribune.  Joseph Kenney, 36, of Deerfield and Glenview’s director of capital projects and inspection services, was released on bond and is still employed by the village, the article says. Glenview Village Manager Todd Hileman told the Tribune that an independent counsel is being brought in to work with the human resources department on an independent investigation. Bannockburn Police Blotter: Police Arrest Driver for DUI and More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Bannockburn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI  Allison Chin, 51, of Deerfield was arrested Saturday for driving under the influence, speeding and improper lane usage, according to Bannockburn Police reports.  Police spotted Chin crisscrossing southbound Telegraph Road near Wilmot Road swerving between the white fog line and onto the shoulder while driving 36 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per hour zone, according to the report.  After stopping Chin, police smelled a strong odor of alcohol and observed her moving slowly. Chin failed field sobriety tests and tested a blood alcohol level in excess of .08 percent, according to the report. Police Chase Ends in Arrest

Deerfield, Highland Park and Illinois State Police assist after Chicago man is clocked at 103 miles per hour on Highway 41.

A Chicago man driving in excess of 100 miles per hour on Highway 41 in Highland Park today set in motion a search effort by Highland Park, Deerfield and Illinois State Police, according to Deputy Highland Park Police Chief George Pfutzenreuter. Joshua Klein, 21, of Chicago was arrested by Highland Park police today for fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and speeding, according to Pfutzenreuter. Klein was later transferred to the custody of Morton Grove police because of an outstanding warrant for theft. Police Blotter: Police Arrest Three for DUI

The following arrest information was supplied by the Deerfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI Reagan Hogan, 33, of Deerfield was arrested Oct. 12 for driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol, speeding and driving without insurance, according to Deerfield Police Reports. Police observed Hogan driving 50 miles per hour in the 40-mile-per-hour zone in the 400 block of Waukegan Road when he was stopped, according to the report. Police smelled a strong odor of alcohol and saw Hogan could not open the car’s glove compartment. He also swayed as he got out of the car. Hogan failed field sobriety tests, according to the report. Police Arrest Mark Ditka Again for DUI

Son of former Chicago Bears coach stopped a block from his home. This time the charges are a felony.

Mark Ditka, 49, of Deerfield, son of former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka, was arrested Sunday on felony charges of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune. This is Ditka’ second arrest on DUI charges though the first was a misdemeanor, according to his attorney in the initial case, Robert Ritacca. Ditka was charged just over a year ago, according to a story on Patch at the time. Bannockburn Police Blotter: Police Make Two DUI Arrests

The following arrest information was supplied by the Bannockburn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Karen Engert, 68, of Deerfield was arrested Friday for driving under the influence and related traffic offenses, according to Bannockburn Police reports.  Police observed Engert stopped in the straight through westbound lane of Half Day Road with a left turn signal activated. Engert began moving slowly barely avoiding a collision with another vehicle according to the report. After stopping her, police noticed a strong odor of alcohol.  Engert failed field sobriety tests and was unable to provide sufficient breath to register on a breathalyzer.
