Deerfield High School sophomore diver started thinking about the future right after fourth place finish at State Meet.
Minutes after the fourth-place medal was placed around his neck for his diving efforts at the State Meet Saturday in Winnetka, Deerfield High School’s Sean Scary was already pondering next year. A sophomore, Scary was thinking about improving his performance and returning in 2014 and 2105 to continue a Warrior tradition on the one-meter springboard. Being part of a line of Deerfield state champion is a hope he holds. Earlier: Scary Dives to Fourth in State Meet That tradition includes Olympian Christine Loukas who won four straight state titles from 2001 through 2004 and Erin Purdy, who took the championship in 2011. Jason Brown becomes the third Deerfield High School athlete or team honored by the Village Board for winning a state championship during the past school year.
What do you need to do to get your own private road sign at the entrances to Deerfield? All you have to do is win a state title and that happened three times during the 2012-13 school year. The latest Warrior honored was Illinois tennis champion Jason Brown. Earlier: Intensity Powers Brown’s State Title Drive Brown led the Pledge of Allegiance at Monday’s Village Board meeting and was given one of the signs proclaiming his accomplishments. “These will be placed at the entrances to the Village,” Mayor Harriet Rosenthal said of the road sign. Almost 10,000 votes were cast during Patch's week-long poll; see who came out on top.
Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 21- Nov. 27: Erin Purdy is this week's Patch Athlete of the Week. Garnering about 56 percent of the vote, Purdy topped a deep field that included local basketball and football players. There were nearly 10,000 votes, but Purdy's state championship win in diving gave her the edge and made her this week's winner. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 21- Nov. 27 are: Erin Purdy, senior, girls diving, Deerfield – Purdy captured the state championship in the diving competition with a total of 405.95 points. She became Deerfield’s second diving state champion, following Christina Loukas, who won three straight years from 2001-2003. Purdy had finished in the top five as a sophomore and junior, but finally topped the podium in her last year.
